Never thought l would ever see this game , but the full match is on YouTube the Heavyroller. Didn’t know footage even existed . The picture quality is not too bad . Great to look back at the days when Everton once had a great team. If anyone does have a look, ken Wolstenholme is commentator, is Sir Alf doing the summarising? |

It was bad enough hemmed in the boys pen having to watch us as the Cup Winners take a 4-0 battering!, but the best outcome was after near relegation the season before Best Law Charlton clicked and United won the League the following season. Happy days at Goodison they were not! _________________ Leslie Millman

Leslie, they were waiting for that little lad from Belfast to come over and galvanise them . When you think about it, he actually did. Never seen this match before and have often wondered what went on ? I don’t think they were treating it as a pre- season run out. United were poor and Denis Law played so deep. Losing Tony Kay was a terrible blow for Everton. He had just been made team captain and was some player. All for a paltry £60 , or whatever it was. |

For me this is the only worthwile thing that came out of this match!
Formerely the property of Albert Quixall who had such a bad game, Matt Busby never selected him again and transferred him to Oldham Athletic 6 weeks later despite him winning a Cup Final Medal just 5 months earlier! _________________ Leslie Millman

Thedoog10, that was a great Everton team , but like the 1969-70 side , they seem to just fizzle out when you’d think they would be be at the top for a few years. Catterick should have never sold Ball. Did you notice that the Vernon penalty is not on this footage? Is Sir Alf doing the summarising? He sounds posh! Lovely item that Leslie, the great Johnny Giles didn’t last much longer at United either after this game. Went to Leeds and became a fabulous midfielder. That Revie bloke was pretty good! |

Johnny Giles last match for United was the 1963 Cup Final-he had a row with Busby over money.
Joining United in 1959 for £10 signing on fee at 19 he was sold to Second Division Leeds in August 1963 for £37,500-perhaps one of SMB's biggest regrets?. Giles was the Brother in Law of Nobby Stiles-he should NEVER have been allowed to leave! as he would have won more at United and perhaps assisted them to win the European Cup before 1968 as well as more League titles-ce sera sera .... _________________ Leslie Millman
