Apologies if this has already been covered

From 1 July, and in line with new legislation, eBay will collect VAT on all goods which are sold through eBay and shipped to buyers in the European Union (EU) with a consignment value up to EUR150.

Using the following example, do we know how this works (I am a private seller)?

I sell a programme, winning bid is £100, buyer is in Germany (the maths below is just about tax, I know eBay fees will further bite in to my proceeds)

- Does he pay £120, eBay takes £20, so I receive £100

- Or does he pay £100, eBay takes £20, so I receive £80

I'm not normally slow at this sort of thing but I genuinely can't work this out!

As I mentioned in a previous thread AFAIK programmes do not attract VAT but not sure that will stop Ebay charging 20% extra on sales to Europe.

Programmes are exempt, but I don't think ticket stubs are.

ive bought 2 programmes from the EU recently on ebay, one quite expensive and 20% was added!
when i got through on the chat Ebay said they were following UK Govt. guidance, even though progs are exempt!!

shambles as the buyer in the EU or the UK is getting shafted

Buying from the EU you should pay the VAT rate applicable in that country.

Just following up on this, can anyone who has bought from the EU clarify the VAT situation. I am looking to buy an item from the EU and it says vat would be added, I thought this had been clarified that programmes were exempt? If they are exempt how ould I go about making sure I don’t have to pay this VAT? Thanks Smile

Programmes are exempt from VAT in the United Kingdom but do we know if that applies in EU countries ?

Programmes are exempt and eBay know this, however if the programme isn't listed in a specific programme category (and some countries don't have them) then eBay wash their hands. It's fraud, frankly.

From Royalmail.com

As of 1 July 2021, items imported to the EU with a value of €22 or less became no longer exempt from VAT. This means that all goods sent directly from GB to consumers in the EU, both via online marketplaces and sales made directly, are now subject to the local rate of VAT in your customer’s country.
