Saturday 31st March 1956

Division III South

Colchester United 2 Crystal Palace 4 (Murray 2, Noakes, Berry)

Gate: 7,397

A few nice words there from the programme editor, and with today's result you'd have thought Palace would have edged up the table. But no - 9 games to go and they won 3 and lost 6, ending up in 23rd place and seeking re-election again. Colchester finished 12th.

31st March, 1954

Derby County 1 (Harrison) St.Mirren 2

att: 4,135

The fifith Scottish side to visit the Baseball Ground that season to play under floodlights. The low attendance suggests the novelty had perhaps worn off by now, though, as far as the public were concerned.

31st March 1973

Bletchley Town v Andover

Southern League Div 1 South

Bletchley no longer with us, having changed their name to Milton Keynes City in 1974 and being dissolved in 2013 or so.

Bletchley finished 9th in this particular season and transferred to Div.1 North for season 73/74.

I'm fairly sure (though not certain) that a certain Robert Maxwell was their chairman for a short while.
