Hi All

Had a read around a few threads and realise what a huge minefield all this could be so looking for advice on what’s best to do please.

My husband’s father used to collect football programmes (he died at an early age in 1978), some of which are quite random one offs and some there are quite a few of. We got them all out last night and tried to make some sort of order of them. They’re currently sat in club order and by date within that. There are hundreds and hundreds of them, mostly (from what we can see) is just run of the mill stuff. However, there is a complete ‘set’ of Man Utd ‘disaster’ programmes. By that I mean the last game played by Utd before the crash. The first game played by Utd after the crash (complete with token) and the programme with the announcement of Duncan Edwards (no token).

What should we do with these and how should we deal with the rest?

Thank you for replying Keith.

After a bit more reading (and going through the Man U programmes). We think this one may be of interest too?

Oh, perhaps I should have added it’s the first game back in the ground after being bombed during WWII.

Thanks for posting, super history. Some will be worth a few bob, but many have dropped in value.
Best way to seek advice is to show photos or state which seasons you have and teams. Some Man Utd aways from the 40s and 50s may be quite valuable.
No tickets I assume ?

Thank you for the responses.

I wasn’t expecting any offers from posting on this site. I was genuinely looking for advice, although I’m not adverse to offers obviously Laughing

I was hoping to be advised whether it was better to sell privately or to an auction house etc. Would it be better to sell individually or as job lots. Was there anyone/company to avoid (or conversely, which ones were the best to approach).

I have read messages and will not make any decisions until I have taken everything into account.

I shall come back to this thread today/tonight and list all the Man Utd ones I have.

Thank you all for your interest thus far.

OK, there’s 117 Man Utd home game programmes as listed below. Some have asked about away games. If there are any away programmes they would be held with the away club programmes so please ask/tell me which specific club you’re interested in. To be truthful my husband said his dad was really not interested in the away games so we probably don’t have them, but I’ll gladly look.

These 117 are but a small part of the whole collection. We have lots of other clubs, some just one or two programmes, some a good number (for instance: a good number of Aston Villa programmes. Headington/Oxford Utd half a dozen and so on) I really would like advice - anyone?

I hope what I’ve listed below is self explanetary. I’d be pleased to answer questions/post photos if needed.

Just to say, thank you to all those who have messaged me so far, I REALLY appreciate it. I’m trying to not be rude but not answering right now as head is spinning already. We really don’t know about selling programmes and taking everything on board is a little but mind boggling. You do all have my thanks though xxx (very girly but I appreciate your efforts)

Out of interest what are the Headington/Oxford ones that you have?

There was a post on here just before Christmas from someone who wanted some advice on Headington/Oxford programmes and they went to a company called Sporting Gold who run an auction 4 or 5 times a year. [/quote]

Can I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has taken the time to respond either on this thread or by pm. I really appreciate the interest shown and the advice given. I haven’t responded to anyone as I don’t want to commit to anything before we have a chance to assess what’s actually there. There are, at a rough estimate, about 1,000 or so programmes and we will be going through and listing everything over the coming weeks.

Once we have decided what to do I’ll come back to this thread and let you all know. I shall also respond to any pm’s at that time.

Many, many thanks.

Kim
