Firstly, condolences on your loss. If you have Rangers programmes from the 1940s and 50s then you are sitting on a fortune ! Individually some are worth £1000 plus each.
I would strongly advise you approach a specialist auction house like sportingold who would advise further.
Rangers programmes are up there as the most expensive issues for immediate post war seasons , home and away

My condolences for your loss. Terrible at any time of the year but particularly at this time of year.

There are many on this forum who are far more qualified than I to offer advice but if I were you, given the vast quantity here and the fact there are some of 70+ years of age, I would look to speak to someone like Brian Johnson at Almondvale Programmes or Douglas Stevenson at D and D Programmes in Kilmarnock who are probably the two biggest dealers in Scotland. I'm certain they could advise in terms of best way forward.

I have no experience of Auction Houses but I am sure it would also be a valid option. Ill let one of the members who do deal with Auction Houses advise on that.

Wish you well

Regards

Jim

I collect Ayr programmes, so I like to think I know a bit about other Scottish issues, but sometimes you see huge prices like the first link being realised on eBay and have no idea why. As others have said, consult experts because you're sitting on a lot of money potentially here. (The second link shows some achieved prices on eBay.) A few of your programmes will be worth a lot, but quite a few will have little value. That's just the way programme collecting is...

Most of the high prices are from the 40s or postponed fixtures. That Raith one was a postponed one which is why it is so high I would think.

I don't know why that Dundee Utd one went for 2 grand other than people desperate to complete the 9 in a row season. I have a copy but never paid anything like that.

The problem with trying to sell a collection that size is that most of it from the 70s onwards will likely be worth pennies other than special issues or postponed ones.

Rangers v Raith Rovers postponed one is super rare normally Rangers from that season around £7 - £10.

The Dundee United one never went on sale, they were pulped but someone from the printers held back a few, probably no more than a dozen exist, there are two from 92/93 season that has the same story v Dundee Utd & Falkirk also Rangers v Aberdeen May 91 with an ad for the movie "The pope must die"

I paid £14.99 for my copy and less than a pound postage so a bargain.

I've saw the other 3 on ebay years ago but never got them

Yes, I have both the postponed and rearranged games. The covers are the same but one is dated February and the other March.

I couldn't believe it when I got it as they are very rare as you say.

The postponed one from from 24/03/79 v Celtic is one to watch though as there are 2 versions. One is the actual postponed programme and the other is the rearranged one from May but without the date blacked out and the new date added. They are easy to tell apart as the latter one has the results well past March so couldn't be the postponed one.

I’ve got the May dated version, worth peanuts and combined with the score and ramifications of it, a date best forgotten.

To the O.P, one thing to consider is the condition of the programmes which will have an influence on the prices realized. Fortunately for you, with the collectability of Rangers, especially 40’s and some of the 50’s this will have less of an impact but it should still be noted. I’d contact the dealers and auction houses and get a feel for valuation before deciding your next move. As others have mentioned, you are sitting on a lot of money if you have every Rangers programme.

If you offer free shipping to the USA and heavily discounted prices, I’m interested. Smile

Very wise.
As stated the real money is in the 40s issues and plenty rare aways in the 50s . I also know guys who would pay top dollar for certain programmes.
I have not sent you a PM but as a Scottish club collector who has many years experience , feel free to drop me a message if you need any info on the 1940s programmes
Good luck
