Hi All

Well, here it is, the day has come - my new website is launched.

www.petespicturepalace.co.uk

What a task it was and if anyone needs a new website, I recommend my developers, young blokes who took a real interest (with no personal interest in football), but they got stuck in and spent hours on it. Not cheap but well worthwhile.

Please have a look, have a browse, and tell me what you think - good or bad.

A few examples of the new stock (547 added - total now 7350)

Arsenal v Sunderland 1957

Birmingham - Jimmy Bloomfield - don't know - Mike Hellawell

Bolton v Huddersfield 1949

Cardiff v Blackpool 1957

Chelsea v Luton 1958 (Greaves on left)

Holland 1978 World Cup

Liverpool v Stoke 1972 - Banks' last game before his car crash

Peter Grummitt, Forest

West Ham v West Brom, 1977

A site update this morning, my first since the re-launch.

175 more photos added and stock up to 7300 on sale. It's getting more & more competitive at auctions, the internet and phone bidding are the usual bugbears and I understand only too well the necessity of doing that, you can't travel to every auction and there's one just about every day. But I do worry that internet and phone bidders actually know what they are buying. Some auction catalogues and websites are, shall we say, a tad economical with the truth and I have found when viewing and deciding against bidding on a lot because of (say) duplication, repros, and/or poor condition, that offers still fly in on the phone and internet. I really do wonder sometimes what the reaction is when the item lands on their doormat. Caveat emptor, I know, and not all auction houses are "economical" like that.

Anyway, here are a few of today's newcomers:-

Barcelona 1984 - El Tel, Archibald etc

Chelsea v Leeds 1957 Stubbs jumps over Wood

The great John Jackson, CPFC's finest

Doncaster v Hull City 1948

Skelmersdale Utd keeper Terry Crosbie, 1968

Sid McClellan, Spurs, 1953

Walsall v Liverpool FLC s/f 1984 - a collapsed wall

At long last, 3 months to the day, my site will be updated with another 219 photos in the morning. I have already shared a few with you here so I'll show a few below and hope you haven't seen them before.

AC Milan c 1948, signed and dedicated by their Icelander Albert Gudmundsson

Arsenal v Southampton Gould & McGrath (OUCH!) 1968

Colchester Utd probably 1947/8

England 9 Scotland 3 - 1961 - Greaves scores No 3 past the hapless Haffey

Ghana players at the 1964 Olympics saluting their new president Kwame Nkrumah and enjoying the attention

Racing Club Argentina v Celtic - 1968 - trouble brewing - Bobby Lennox involved

1949 FA Cup Final and Billy Wright collects the trophy from HRH Princess Elizabeth

That's all for now folks!

Announcing my new site update tonight, just gone live, 220 more original press photos added so the total now stands at about 7500 in all. Here are a few tasters:-

2 x 50's legends in action - Trevor Ford (Cardiff) fires a penalty past Burt Trautmann (Man City) but it was in vain - the Mancs won 4-1 - 1955 Maine Road

England v Scotland 1973 - Martin Peters gets a clattering from the Scots keeper Allan Hunter

Everton v Liverpool 1966 and sub Sandy Brown rises to head past Tommy Lawrence and the Toffees win 3-1. Poor old Sandy is only remembered for an own goal though.........

1960's Northern League action - Penrith v Billingham Synthonia, 2 clubs I'm delighted to welcome to PPP. No idea who the players are but it's a lovely photo.

Ellis Rimmer, 1930's star forward for Sheffield Wednesday and 4 times for England

The 1958 World Cup is under way as King Gustav Adolf VI of hosts Sweden shakes hands with Mexican keeper Carbahal

And finally, modelling West Ham's superb away kit in 1958, Noel Cantwell

Thank you for looking!

New website is now 1 year old.

12 month (1.8.16-31.7.17) stats read:-

Page Views 102,763
Sessions 5,814
Most Users in 1 month 364 (Dec 16)
Most countries with viewers in 1 month 30 countries (Jan 17)
Most cities with viewers in 1 month 184 cities (Dec 16 & May 17)

I love a good stat but these are pretty meaningless as I have nothing to compare them with!

Was it worth the investment? You bet!

Anyhow, thanks for your support, guys.

They look like good numbers Pete and are well deserved.
I love how your site looks mate.

My missus is currently building my website (she's more tekkie than me) and I only hope that it looks half as good as yours when it's done.

Looking through some of your pictures Pete, the nostalgia kicks in, yet again. The photo of the Sandy Brown goal. I was at that game.Everton had just signed the superb Alan Ball.l'm sure Shankly would have loved him at Liverpool,.l think Shanks would ring him up on a regular basis, in the hope of signing him , but the Blues paid the £100,000 Blackpool wanted. What would he be worth now after performing like he did in the 1966 World Cup Final? He did manage to sign Emlyn Hughes of them a few years later! Ball ran Liverpool ragged that August day in 1966, scoring two goals. What a player,,better than Neymar in my opinion. The Ellis Rimmer photo is interesting. He was in the same Birkenhead Boys School team as the great Dixie Dean ( . They both went on to play for England .

Hi

Great site , I was wondering if you have any press images from September 10th 1965 I know it's a long shot I think there was only 4 games played that evening being it a Friday but no harm in asking , if not I'm interested in any Manchester United images from the 11th September 1965

Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony

Thank you, please clarify:

Here you say 10th/11th September 1965.

In the other threads about programmes you say 10th September 1966.

Before I try to find something (forlorn hope but you never know!) please answer.

Cheers
Pete

Hi Pete

I collect programmes from the date 10th September starting from 1965
so when you see 66/67/68 and so on it will always be on the 10th sept , the reason I'm asking about the 11th is it's the nearest date to the 10 of the year 65 which would of been the Saturday..

Hope that clears it up

Tony

Tony, been through my website and found nothing with precisely 10th Sept 1965 on, not surprisingly with only 4 games played.

As rgds Man Utd photos dated 11th Sept 1965, regret any I may have had in that era were sold ages ago.

PPP website updated tonight! A further 219 press photos added to the stock so a new high is reached - 7586 original photos on straight sale. Means one thing - I need some orders! But no obligation so have a browse and lose yourself in nostalgia.

Here are a few examples:-

Been after one of these for ages - many of these appear taken at Brighton c 1920, this one is v Oldham in the FA Cup, 1921. An original unused postcard. A superb study.

Leicester v Luton FAC 1949, Griffiths hits one of City's 5 goals in 5-3 beating of the Hatters en route to Wembley - this was the replay after a 5-5 draw at Kenilworth Road. Can imagine the MOTD studio having a fit about the defending.

The superb Chris Waddle in action in Newcastle's silver away kit at White Hart Lane 1985. Apparently it was at this game that Spurs decided to go out & get Waddle for themselves.

Newport Co v Reading also in 1985. Trevor Senior was a goalscoring sensation for a while and this was in Reading's record 13th consecutive victory from the start of the season.

A Bradford derby - City v Avenue 1956. No 8 Hampson of City wins a header as Brolls of Avenue looks on. Full of Yorkshire atmosphere.

And finally, for now - Bob Stokoe after the FA Cup semi final 1973 when they saw off Arsenal.

Finally the day has come and a new batch is uploaded to PPP. 3 months is too long between updates but time has been stressful at home and I just haven't had the energy. But needs must and a batch of 261 new photos are added taking stock to 7637 original press photos on straight sale. Here are a few examples, some of which may also be on Twitter:-

Brazil 1973 or 4 (just before World Cup)

George Best playing for Bournemouth 1983

Sheffield United's legendary defensive triangle c 1960

Morecambe staff listen to 3rd round FA Cup draw Dec 1961 after beating Chester. They drew Weymouth at home (making a rare all non-league 3rd round tie) but then lost 0-1.

Clough & Taylor can't quite believe it, Loftus Road, 1977

Andy Gray whacks home v Arsenal (Walford) 1979

Thank you everybody for your help with ID and support over the months and years, and a very Merry Christmas to you all.
