I have been wading through some Sportsmans Book Club issues - cricket and football.
I would not say they are my favourites but they provide an interesting insight into the sports back in the day. |

'Slim Jim' by Tom Miller..A biography of Jim Baxter, who had probably the best left foot in Scottish football history.Off the pitch, the man was wilder than even Gazza. He never bothered with training sessions.l wish we still had top players who didn't give a monkeys. It's all pretty boring nowadays. 'Never Turn The Other Cheek' by Baxter 's mate, Pat Crerand, is also entertaining. If this book is anything to go by .Pat would have been a handy boxer , if hadn't become a top footballer. He is something of a knockout merchant! Most sports books tend to be tedious, these two buck the trend. |

"Left foot in the Grave'. Gary Nelson 's 1997 account of his time as player coach at bottom of the table Torquay United. Every premier league player should read this and they would know what it's like in the basement of the football league and not to be over paid and pampered. |
