Sometimes things happen that make you realise why this forum exists and what it's actual purpose is.
Many of you may recall a thread from pre-Christmas where YACHTSMUN and SAINT CLARKIE were helping me with finding out the career details of Andy McLean who played for Southampton and later Cowes Sports in the late 50s/early 60s.
Andy McLean now lives here in Prestatyn and was a regular visitor to my shop but had not been in for a few weeks. In the interim, Yachtsmun and Saint Clarkie provided me with a shedload of info about Andy so I was waiting for him to turn up so I could pass the details on.
Well, today he called in and when I gave him the info and photocopied programmes, press cuttings etc I thought he was going to break down on me! He was absolutely overwhelmed that a middle-aged bloke in North Wales could turn up such wonders for a guy from Netley who was kicking a ball before I was born!
He has asked me to pass on his sincere and heartfelt thanks (his words) to the two members mentioned and if you guys are willing to pass me your emails and phone numbers he would like to get in touch and see if you have any more stuff you might be willing to photocopy for him.
Yachtsmun - he would love to help with the Cowes FC history if he can.
He is one of the nicest guys I have met football-wise and I hope you will be able to help him further.
As I said at the start, surely this is why this forum exists, to help and encourage and enlighten, not to hinder, discourage and disillusion.

Cracking story Mark.....full marks to all involved! I had a similar experience last year when I obtained a few "bits and pieces" for a former Celtic and Notts Forest Player......via Brian at Almondvale programmes in Scotland, what made it special was the former player actually ended up talking with Brian (who had really done all the hard work) and two Scotsmen well and truly ended up "swinging the lantern!". What a great hobby this is! Clap

Ah, brilliant - only too glad to help (and sorry I could only pass on one original programme). I think I photocopied just about everything I have relevant to him, but I'll gladly keep an eye out for more.

And yes, I'll be more than happy to speak to him - I'll PM you my contacts. Looks like I might be up in Prestatyn towards the end of April so maybe we could hook up for a cuppa/pint and a yarn.
