Well selling to dealers is the only way forward when selling large collections.
When sellers come on here with a large collection they get bombarded by collectors wanting reserves Youths postponed matches etc etc etc.
And then they get left with the dross |

Here is a Manchester City collection.
Approximately 500 , could re-sell these for over £2 each , says the seller. That's £1000. Well the question is why haven't they any bids at £30 ? And if they can get £2 each then why aren't they doing that ?

The only way for anyone to make money on their "big" collection is to list them individually and hope for the best. It's ridiculous to expect a quid an item, thats what a dealer will sell on for in the long run, or a bit more depending whether they are pre 60's.
The time it takes to list items, pay for a courier or petrol, then pay paypal and ebay fees.
10-15p an item is more realistic for collections over a 1000. That's the way it is at the moment. Certain other dealers out there expect bulk deals which is not possible these days.
A certain dealer out there is sulking because I would not offer a good deal and I tried to get 3 x 40's programmes for 29 quid inc postage. I paid for them and have basically been knocked for my money. You know who you are fella. _________________ new listings nearly every day, programmes form every club, every era

Apologies if this is a bit off track, but I don't know why folk bother listing individual, run-of-the-mill, post-1970 progs on eBay.
No sod ever buys them, yet still they keep appearing in their droves.
Every time I check out my club on eBay, there they still are, page after page of the blighters.
Most on a monthly merry-go-round by the same sellers too.
Aside from the very scarce items, the bottom appears to have fallen out of the programme market completely.
You can't give them away now.
Yet the ticket, photo & badge side of footy collecting seems to be thriving.
Have people simply fallen out of love with the old matchday programme?
Are modern-day progs that are too expensive, too bulky, and take up far too much space partly to blame in folk turning away from the hobby??
(I say "partly" because there are other more obvious reasons in the modern age)
I've even stopped buying them myself at matches now, and that's something I never thought would happen.
Sadly they're just overpriced and far too bulky to carry around the pubs afterwards.
I don't want a 100-page laminated book, just a small A5, twenty-page affair with teams, club gossip, a few nice pics to look at, and the fixtures etc.
Programmes now seem way out of hand - and I've even worked on ours for the last ten years and have still thought and said so. |

On the same theme has anyone seen this item?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2217.....EBIDX%3AIT
I have seen the list and did think at first that all those postponed programmes were included but sadly they are not!
If the seller gets his £30K then we will all be very happy that the market has returned! |

You could buy the exact same set individually on ebay, at auction, dealers lists etc, well 99% over night without too much difficulty and have lots of fun along the way for a lot cheaper than 30K, ''the thrill of the chase'' is what collecting football programmes is all about isn't it?? I'd rather have a massive Man Utd collection painstakingly collected over many years through good times, bad times and skint times, building it up piece by piece, than have a Man Utd collection complete back to 47/48 to brag about overnight in one bank transfer..., ok you'll end up spending £5000 on postage costs along the way (and the rest) buying separately but the seller on ebay is not including any of rare postponed or 46/47 issues - maybe treble could confirm if this is a bargain or not in one but in my eyes it looks like you pay for what you get and that is all... if i wanted to be a Man Utd collector (and investor) personally i'd just stick to quality....Utd programmes on US tours, rare postponed issues, early European and pre war homes/aways or Newton Heath..that's where the money is.. |

Everything Cossie has mentioned re MUFC is spot on.
I have seen the list of items available and their is nothing of any real consequence within this collection unfortunately. |
