I've just got back from a really good weekend break in Portsmouth to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I think my missus and I must have walked for miles and miles.

Funny thing is, I got there and found York were playing Pompey that weekend.............. Very Happy

Fratton Park is a proper football ground, a bit of old and new.

And to cap it all (as well as our unexpected late equaliser), there was a Football Mail Sports paper on Saturday evening covering the game.

I know there's been a thread on this subject before, but there can't be many of these papers still being published?

Twas a great read back in the day on the way home to Liverpool, at the time was prob only way you could get all the results that day(70s) full set of fixtures also.Have quite a collection of these and i am allways on the look out to add to specially Wolves covering seasons 67/68 to 69/70.

Top paper The Mail ,had some great help from them re some Doog pics that had appeared in prevous issues.

Remember the days on the "special" trains coming home from a Northern game and stopping at Crewe for a short time while someone would dare jump off to buy the paper with the days results in before the train moved off again. Strange how we now take things for granted, getting the scores on you mobile etc

The Green'Un was in Ipswich.

The Pink'Un was in Norwich.

This was a few years ago, when I used to play local Saturday/Sunday football and all of the local results were published from the week before.

So not exactly sure if its still going today ?

The Sheffield 'Green Un' from 4th February 1950.

We had the Green Un for over a hundred years in Sheffield which covered everything in local sport, football, cricket, fishing, horse racing and many many more.

It was a part of the very fabric of sheffield social life on a saturday evening when i was a kid. I used to have a paper round on saturday afternoon for a couple of years, used to stop half way round to watch the results come in before returning to the paper shop which was full of blokes waiting for it to arrive. Along with the sea-food lads they'd always be a bloke come in selling the green uns in the pubs down town.

It was a quality product, put together by people who actually cared.
They crammed as much stuff in it as possible.

Many put it's demise down to the arrival of the internet, and it did have a big effect, but the Publishers weren't interested. It began to be neglected like the main paper in Sheffield. The old style reporters disappeared, to be replaced by Uni students on work experience and the local scene section, which many bought it for almost disappeared entirely.

When I were a lad in Walsall we used to have the Sports Argus, so wish I'd kept them

This one is an FA Cup 4th Round special from 1977/8 rather than the usual final score's issue

I was at the Walsall v Leicester game to see 3rd division Walsall beat their 1st division visitors, stood behind the Fellows Park home team dug-out (and got told off for sitting on top of it!)
