Well as we seem to have a lot of save the planet greens on this forum how do people feel about the policy of some clubs,including my own Manchester United destroying all the programmes for a postponed game.
Of course it doesn't happen that often now in the Premier league but never the less it does happen
Even more so in the 1960's before undersoil heating
Now these programmes have become the really valuable post war programmes thus adding massive value to a collection as well as lining the pockets of descendants of the printers of the time.
So have these clubs been honourable

At the same time we still have postponements in the lower leagues when the weather,which has undoubtably been been affected by planet changes,turns nasty

So if your club just puts an insert in the programme when it is re arranged do you applaud them
or
If they did destroy the programmes and reprinted and only a few originals survived(making it valuable) would you refuse to take a serious profit on moral grounds,if you got one or two

Talking about postponed programmes you can find a selection of impossible to find programmes that are in my own collection

They include pre war programmes against West Ham United in the 1930's and Huddersfield Town in the 1920's as well of some of the rarely seen post war programmes that nestle snugly in my own collection

If they are "impossible to find programmes" how come you have got them?

When i was younger i was searching for a young.nympho, slim blonde who owned a pub.

I found one and after many years she was no longer any of those things .
I have been looking for another one since which is impossible.

I am opening up a huge collection covering many clubs who have played against Manchester United
This is for the amusement and education and curiosity of everybody including non collecting collectors and people who have wives that won't let spend a tenner without permission

So if i make a snide comment the bullies gang up and want me red carded(or black)
If i show you something interesting you feel very comfortable giving me a snide comment

So how does this work exactly

Before somebody causes a war again i suggest you two develop a policy of just ignoring my postings

Most clubs now recognise there is a market amongst collectors for postponed games and actively try and sell them on. Of course collectors get as many copies as they wish and they are not expensive.
The clubs who give the order to destroy them ( save a few put aside, wink wink ) are quite unscrupulous as they know fine well that the few put aside will end up on eBay for astronomical prices . You can only blame the greed of the multi millionaire clubs. Some have CLASS , others do not.

I wouldn't want you carded because you've got as much right as everybody else to post its just a wind up because I know where you are coming from and exactly what you are trying to say.As the regards the tenner i think you've estimated that by about 50% ,as for me im interested in what youve got to see/show as after all when you've got a top collection from the most collectable club its got to be wotyh looking at.

And if you don't think a club such as Manchester United do not check eBay and such like, then why do they ban their players from signing shirts ? Because they end up on eBay of course. And so there is only one reason such a club would want to destroy 99.9 % of a postponed game and that is to create a high value for the few remaining programmes. It stinks .

It's not only a top collection from a top club is worth looking at

Personally i just love looking at the items at the National Football Museum that houses much of Neville Evans collection

I prefer the paper and ephemera items as opposed to medals and shirts and boots

I just love looking at how the game developed from the late 1800's through to about 1960

When players were ripped off by the owners
Now it's the fans who are ripped off by the owners

I love things like seeing the players union developing from the early 1900's of The outcasts right through to Jimmy hill and the abolishment of the maximum wage

In case some younger people didn't realise you got your fiver whether you played for Manchester united,Arsenal,Grimsby,West Brom,Aston Villa etc etc

So you don't have the situation that Liverpool currently have with money issues

As it didn't matter who you played for the player got a choice of club depending on his ambition to win,balanced against his preferred lifestyle balanced against which part of the country he wanted to live in

As an example Stanley Matthews liked the seaside so he joined Blackpool
He liked training on the sands and Blackpool was the Riviera in the 1950's and 1960's
They've not spent a coin on anything in Blackpool since he left
The Oyston family see the club as a personal cash machine
The hotels haven't had a coat of paint in 40 years and an atheist could walk on the water it's that polluted

I suspect you are wrong with that
There are so few games postponed these days at United(in fact i can't think of one recently) that they wouldn't have thought of that angle
Anyway the programmes are printed,i believe,under licence,by a printer in London who is in total control of distribution
United just get a fee

Your opinions on shirts and autographs are in the right direction
They have copyright for a reason and that is just greed
I agree
It is nothing to do with fans best interest
It is all to do with Manchester United's commercial interest
Other clubs do the same mind and very few give a fcuk about the fans

In the old days a fan could write to a club and ask for a programme,an autograph etc and just expect to and usually got something back at the clubs expense
Then it changed to "get lost" if you don't send a stamped addressed envelope which usually ended with the club jibbing the stamp
Of for the good old days eh roughyed
Now they just ignore you.

Despite having a huge charitable foundation very little comes out for good causes no matter what is wrong with you
The United Foundation pays a serious rent to the Glazer owned ground and pays a serious amount out for salaries.Some charity
A large amount of what they send out ends up with underprivileged people overseas
The cynic in me might suggest that this is to encourage the fan base overseas
I think this might be more in the realms of Bazza,Nigel Farrar and Roddy who all seem to have strong political views on these matters

Not going to rise to the bait of slagging Blackpool off, although I recall we have been here before and I think you admitted to having a bit of a soft spot for the town.

I could actually give a very long list of areas of investment over the last few years, with lots more to come, but this forum is not the place.

Oyston family however is another matter.

These 2 are a couple of the more famous ones of Blackpool bringing back the cup in '53.

My dad, who was at all 3 of Blackpool's FA Cup Finals, has more photos buried away somewhere which one day I will get around to looking for.
