He's re-hashing hundreds of items every day or so.... such a pain.

Bobfrankandelvis is doing the same now.

Luckily, I've found a way of removing both of them from my searches - so much less crap to trawl through.

one man's garbage ........ What I don't get is how people try and sell a single page from an old shoot or other football magazine. Basically a torn out page for £1.30 plus £1 plus postage. Really ????? Still if you found a way to block them then no problem really.

Seem to sell a lot of them though, or did. Noticed them also on Amazon so they are doing a lot of work for the 50p or whatever profit on each.

Hi corneli_blue, its Mick - I run Footybits.

Just stumbled on this old thread and thought Id pop an explanation on to justify the "re-hashing" of items on Ebay (Im assuming your referring to the player pictures)

Sorry your so p****ed off with me trying to make a living selling items that a LOT of people do want, including quite a few people on this very forum.

As wullie rightly says the quote "one mans garbage is another mans treasure" is so true, what you consider crap a lot of other memorabilia collectors actually do enjoy collecting and to be honest its a bit insulting to them that you describe it as such.

Anyway, thats the very reason I sell them separately, and yes Wullie, they are simply removed from the original magazines and I dont hide that fact.

Lets take a fictional player as a scenario as to why a LOT of collectors appreciate what I do.

So in this example the collector is someone who wants to collect pictures of players from their own team, say Everton.

Tell me where are they going to find a picture of Joe Bloggs who played for Everton in 1972 if they didnt know that particular picture appeared in the August 1972 edition of Shoot?

What Ive done is taken that picture of Joe and stuck it on Ebay under the team name so anyone searching for "everton player pictures" will find it and hey ho, hes got another picture in his collection which he wouldnt have had, unless hed been lucky enough to have bought that particular issue blind and stumbled across the picture himself.

The same applies to the thousands of other player pictures Ive got up, I sell hundreds of these both on Ebay, Amazon and my own site so Im guessing Im doing something right.

Plus I know for a fact that these buyers appreciate the fact that they have been able to find pictures they might not otherwise have been able to add to their collection.

In fact I have several collectors who buy dozens at a time off me and actually ask me to mail them directly as soon as i get new pictures they might be interested in, again, they obviously dont view these things as crap.

As for the work involved, yeah, theres a helluva lot of work involved but this is my full time job so Ive got the time to do it, plus more importantly I ENJOY doing it

As for the profit, once Ebay/Paypal/Royal mail have had their bite of the cherry its not exactly a massive payday but the majority of my customers buy a few at a time and come back again and again plus its not just pictures I sell. in fact pictures are a small percentage of my total stock.

In fact I have such a massive amount of memorabilia items Ive had to move into a shop unit to store them all and work from so theres obviously a market for this kind of thing.

At the end of the day it pays the bills, beer money, holidays and season ticket and I enjoy my job so what more could a man want !!

Anyway, as youve already found, if the amount of items I sell upsets you when your searching on Ebay, its very simple to exclude my items from your search results.

Mick

BAD NEWS FOR BUSINESS SELLERS

eBay Premium Service final value discounts (effective 2 April 2015)

The final value fee discount for sellers who provide eBay Premium Service is being reduced from 15% to 10%. These sellers will continue to enjoy all other benefits including increased visibility and their eBay Premium Service badge.

Outdated listing fee (coming summer 2015)

We want to encourage sellers to either update or remove outdated listings by bringing in a new outdated listing fee. This means that listings which haven’t sold within 18 months will be charged an additional 10p fee on top of the usual insertion fee when renewing the item.

To avoid this and for more tips on selling, see our guide on how to create listings that sell.

Anchor Shop listings (coming summer 2015)

Anchor Shop subscriptions will have 50,000 inclusive fixed price listings each month instead of unlimited listings.

You’ll be able to list more by paying an additional 5p for each listing over your allowance. Alternatively, we’ll be offering an additional Unlimited Listing Pack which can be purchased separately for £250.

Anchor Shop subscribers will still be able to enjoy great benefits including use of our dedicated Customer Service team, free professional listing management tools and Selling Manager Pro, plus discounted international listing rates.

Look out for updates on the outdated listing fee and Anchor Shops listings nearer the time.

Incidentally Ive just been talking to Ebay and I have it on good authority that the "10p for over 18 month rule" mentioned as part of the above is not actually going to be introduced ....... which is a relief if true !!

I don't have a problem with anyone making a living and if you can go on holidays with the money you make, good luck to you.

I don't have to trawl through all your stuff anyone, which is a great relief and probably saves me a little time, and I've done the same for other sellers that list what seems like thousands of similar photos/stickers/cards. It's reduced the number of hits I get when do a random search for football cards and stickers by many thousands.

I don't see why you and others like you, can't combine all the stickers or cards for one collection into just a few listings. One of the sellers I buy from - Neil Goulding does that. His stuff appears in my searches. If I think there might be something I need, I only have to click the drop-down box. Everything appears in searches and four listings is all he needs to list a whole set of Panini stickers. Until you adopt this way of selling your wares I will not be looking through any of you listings.

I have valid operational reasons why I dont list my items in the "multi variation" listing format you mention but I am not going to waste time justifying/explaining my business processes on here.

Suffice to say that after 10 years of listing on Ebay in various formats the way I do it now is without doubt the most effective method for me and as my buyers seem to like it as well that is how I will continue.

Anyway, as you point out your search settings exclude my listings so it is not now doing you any harm.

hi mate unfortunately we have been told it will come, just on hold for now. apparently there will be a tool which helps revise multiple listings at a time. this could kill off a lot of ebay shop sellers.

Yeah, thats the rumour I heard first as well, but the girl I spoke to today seemed pretty adamant it had been pulled completely. Thats half the problem though, you get one story off one agent and another off the next one !!

Diabolical

What you have here is hard working programme dealers like Fooytbits and Bob frank and tony bennett getting slagged off by bullying two bob fish and chip shop merchants who can't afford the legal frigging postage of the items they offer for sale

This hobby makes me laugh

Its a bit like lowerleague clubs beating premiership clubs in the cup they should know their place and not dare to challenge the so called big boys.

Glad to help...

Click on the word 'Advanced' to the right of the 'Search' button

Page down to 'Sellers' section

Click the box next to 'Only show items from'

In the 'Specific sellers' section,

Click the down arrow - the choice is 'Include' or 'Exclude'. Click on 'Exclude'

Type the sellers name in the box to the right.

to add more than one name separate with semi-colon and a space i.e. ;

Page to the end and click the 'Search' button.

I don't care how many items these guys have on eBay, excluding 'footybits' from one of my searches takes out over 9,000 items, which still leaves 280,000 items. But the 'new' items get reduced from about 12 pages down to less than 2, because his stuff gets regurgitated every couple of days and I'm always afraid that I might miss something interesting that appears amongst them in, what to me, is just mundane items that I seem to find appearing in my searches every few days.
