Can't find the original thread on it but I was up "In the Lakes" last week and took time out to visit the programme shop in Cockermouth. Great experience. The shop is actually one of those that sells everything but there is a very good range of football related stuff including thousands of programmes all individually wrapped in plastic. As you would expect there is a bias towards the clubs of Lancashire and the North West (particularly Carlisle and Workington) but there are copies of programmes from just about every league club in England and Scotland and a lot of foreign games. The more valuable programmes are individually displayed on the walls and seem to be priced according to the going rates often quoted on this site (although as a relative newcomer I am NO expert!) The owner has been a Workington season ticket holder for 45 years and knows his stuff. Very interesting place/person and if you require oddments from the 60's onwards against teams from that part of the world there is a chance he'll have them. |

GBL, you should have let me know you were coming up as I could have met up. Ron's the owner of the Cockermouth Antique Centre, and he's had a lot of stuff from me in the past for the tourist trade, which has unfortunately dried up for him now.
It is a veritable Alladin's Cave, with all kind of collectables, but football's the main area.
Was there myself just a fortnight back, and nothing for me, for the first time. Stock was mainly the same as last time I went as there's been nothing new in.
Jenning's Ales always a good swally in the town.
GBL, did you find the other shops, one almost opposite Ron just over the road, and the big antique shop first left up the main road? Once got England v Wales at Middlesborough 1935 (I think) for £3 there! Ron wasn't particularly pleased about that... |

It was all a bit "last minute". Got offered a lift to Leeds and bought a travel anywhere in the North West rail ticket for £57.00 (absolute bargain). Saw the other shop but didn't go in (curses!!!)
I did mention your name but he looked a bit puzzled. Wasn't helped by the fact I couldn't remember your surname! (it's an age thing!!).
It was very enjoyable just talking to a really knowledgeable bloke. |

Sorry I didn't get an address. There seems to only be one main road, right through the middle. As you come in from the direction of Keswick you go over a bridge and it's the first big building on your right.
Well worth a visit! |

Not at all! I reckon at one point there was nearly a pub per 10 residents but some have shut now..... |

Hi Guys,
Had a week away and managed to convince the missus to go on a 2 hour drive up to Cockermouth in search of this shop.
We found it easily enough...
To be fair there was not an awful lot that interested me, but after speaking to the guy that owns the shop (Ron i think) it became apparent that he has his rarer stuff at home, this is down to theft from the shop!!
As a result I have his contact details and will email him regarding some items from my wants list. I couldn't leave a programme shop without spending money and went away with a reproduction of a bound volume of Chelsea's 1914-15 season. (It was published by Scott Chesire and is one of 250) I don't collect Chelsea or have an interest in them really but thought this would be a good read and an insight into the times.
Dellboye, let me know if your interested we can arrange something once i have read it.
If any of you guys make a trip to the shop then would recommend contacting the shop first and I am sure he will have something of interest either at home or hidden in the shop.
Well worth a drive, especially if you go via Windlemere and the Lakes!! This kept the missus happy anyway _________________ Nuts and Bolts Web Design

He wasn't on site when I showed up so a wasted journey. If I could have his email address it might be worth the trip again
