About Me
What do you do for a living?
Sell tyres for off the road vehicles
Which club do you support and why?
Boston Utd, the local club for local people......
What do you collect?
Boston home and aways
How did you get into programme collecting?
1st game I went to we bought a programme and never missed buying one after that.
Your Collection
What was your first football programme?
Can't remember, probably a Boston home but Dad used to bring them in and they were in a box in the spare room.
What was the last programme you bought?
March v Spalding Eastern League, 1959.
How big is your collection?
2000+ Boston Utd, a couple of hundred Lincs clubs from 1945 onward, loads of Cup Finals big games etc.
How do you store your collection?
The older ones in folders, the post 1980 stuff in shoe boxes.
Whats the oldest programme you own?
1927 Boston v Heanor Midland League
What is the rarest item in your collection?
Probably the pre war Boston's, I've about 20.
Which programme from your club is the rarest and most expensive to obtain?
Boston v Sheff Utd, 1957 Fred Tunstall Testimonial, its a £100 touch as are the Mather Cup games v Leeds from the late 40's.
What is...?
What is your worst buy?
Too many to list! I buy loads at boot fairs and there's always some dross!
What is your best buy?
10 pre war Boston homes for £300!
What is the most you have paid for a programme and which one?
Chesterfiled Res v Boston 1931 Midland League, £100
What is the most you have received for a programme and which one?
£120 for a 1948 Cup Final
What is your most prized programme?
All the pre war Boston
Whats your biggest regret in collecting?
Missing out on a collection of pre war Lincs League stuff. We'd just had the kitchen rebuilt and were skint! For the sake of £300 I could have had about 100 pre war and mid-late 40's programmes.
The Hobby
In you opinion, is the programme collectors communtiy shrinking or growing?
Shrinking, people don't seem to collect things any more.
What do you enjoy most about the hobby?
The craic with other collectors and the buzz of finding something new.
Where do you buy most of your programmes from?
Local advertising and boot fairs.
The Future
If money was no object, which programme would you most like to add to your collection?
Boston v Grimsby Res, 1st game as BUFC.
Would you ever sell your collection?
No plans at present.
How do you wish to develop your collection over the coming years?
Bide my time and wait for the right items to pop up......they usually do!
