A forlorn hope but these are needed;

1946/47 Sheffield Wednesday (Home) West Ham (Home) Chesterfield (Away)

1952/53 Blackpool (Home) Charlton (Away, 6 December, postponed)

Hi mate, do you know if Burnley played Barcelona away in 1921 in a friendly match? Also do you know how much the 1949 Real Madrid v Burnley 'El Balon' match programme is worth?
Many thanks for any help,
Robert

I have a copy of a book called 'Clarets Chronicles', which was produced in 2007 and is claimed to be the most comprehensive record of every game Burnley have played.

There's no reference to Burnley playing Barcelona in 1921.

Hi mate,
Thanks for the reply, i recently bought a Barcelona bound Volume from 1921,they are magazine type programmes called ''Catalunya Sportiva'' Barcelona played 14 matches against English/Welsh clubs that year, on the back page of the Newcastle United friendly issue it has advertisements for matches against Burnley May 22nd, 25th, & 29th, but after this there is no mention again about the matches - i can only presume that they were postphoned,
Robert

No worrys mate, they also played them in 1910, it doesn't look like they've ever played any other Welsh sides apart from this looking at the records,

Clarets Chronicles is pretty comprehensive but is certainly not without omissions and errors. I'll do a bit of research to see if thr Barcelona games did take place, though I must admit I have never heard tell of them in over 40 years of specialising in Burnley. There are at least 2 issues for the Real Madrid game in 1949 - is the one you have with or without the team line ups?

There's an interesting list of results from pre-WWII foreign tours by various British clubs here

http://www.rsssf.com/tablesb/brit-ier-tours-prewwii.html

It's not definitive, I'm sure, but interesting nonetheless.

Lambie

Do you know if there was a programme produced for the Worcester v Burnley friendly at the start of the 89/90 season?

Interesting one this. I was at the game and can confirm that there was definitely no programme issued. However I've seen it come up on a couple of dealers'lists so bought them out of curiosity. They were single sheets, identical apart from one was white and one pale blue, printed on Worcester City Superpool paper. I've since been informed by a 100% reliable source that a Burnley supporter at the game took down the teams, got a sheet of official WCFC paper and had a few copies run up at Prontaprint! I know one changed hands for a tenner, but I can say with absolute certainty that nothing was issued by WCFC.

I'll do better than that Rob, I'll send you a copy. I have your name & address off your website so give me a few days to dig it out and I'll get it off to you.

Thanks

I've seen the Burnley v Barcelona programme a few times. Nice design with the Barca players portrait on the front. I'm no programme expert but ive seen it go on ebay before from just below a hundred to like 150. Always a programme I have fancied owning. I do know that we also played Real Madrid aswell. Seen a picture once of the two teams lining up side by side. Think we might have won aswell

Hello mate,
I have sent a Real Madrid v Burnley programme off to the next Sportingold Auction, it is the El Balon issue, the match finished 0-0 i think it was played 17th May 1949, i was told by another collector that one was sold on ebay last year for £620, the seller was Ian Harkness who lives in Barcelona he sells lots of Spanish items on ebay, the one i have entered has a print error it states Real Madrid v Burnely,
