What is madness is that (A) he was pre-ordering them for anybody that wanted them at only £2.99 each, which is very good values ordinarily, and then (B) he sold a dozen of them as postpones issues @ £6.99 each. The someone comes along and says I'll pay £180 for it?
Bet he's wishing now he hadn't sold that dozen or so at £6.99 each now. Just can't believe that anybody would pay that kind of money for a game that's yet to be played... |

I bet the person who purchased at that price is hoping they decide to print a new copy and not re-issue the old one. |

I'll never understand the allure of these postponed match programmes. The game never happened.............it's NOT a programme |

I don't agree with you there. As far as I'm concerned, any programme that is issued by the club I collect is one I need for my collection. |

Does anyone remember the postponed Carling Cup game between Man Utd and Man City that turned up at Sportingold earlier this year? Went for several thousand pounds. |

i think the Chelsea v Manchester United postponed programme is going to be very very difficult.
the Chelsea programmes were locked in the megastore immediately the game was called off.
the programme dealers who pre ordered have been told by the printers that they will be getting a full refund and that is the end of it.
now we all know that some got out don't we.
at least a box got out at the ground and i suspect a few more to be added but how many?
my feeling is not many at all.
maybe another box but maybe not.
a price has now been shown on ebay and i believe that there will be another one on offer somewhere(possibly ebay) in the near future.
it will be interesting to see the price achieved.
i think £180 might be seen to be a bargain in the fullness of time but that is only my opinion. |

that used to happen at the poorer clubs in the 70s and 80s (with an insert in showing the amended teams), but these days more often that not a new programme is issued. |

Actually a City fan paid £1,900.00 for it in a Charity Auction arranged by City themselves. The sale was set up by a well known person within our hobby.
Now the club were aware that there were a box with around49 others and so the well known person then offered to a number of collectors of both clubs at £100 but you could only have one each.
Then the original buyer was contacted and was advised i am told of the events and did not have to pay such a high price to obtain his copy.
I for one purchased one and ostensibly it was for Charity but am delighted to have obtained it as collecting postponed programmes suits me-the Chelsea postponed is indeed crackers, but there was no similar lunacy in obtaining the Blackpool postponed from a couple of weeks ago. |

Why would the club/printers do this? What is the point in pulping them, why not sell as many as possible, doesn't make economic sense, unless of course certain individuals at the club/printers envisage a nice little earner on the side. |

One went for £4.99 2 days before the £181.99 one.

Did the seller know something that nobody else dose by putting "rare" in the description? (I think not seeing his other listings!).
Reckon loads more will surface as there are at least 3 different sellers with this programme and sure a couple of boxes will turn up with dealers in the future. |

Yes, quite right.
Blackpool had the postponed issues against Man U. and Tottenham for sale in the club shop and still do if anyone requires one.
However this didn't stop people paying a few £s over the cover price on e-bay in the immediate days after the postponements.
If the Liverpool game happens to be called off on Boxing Day and you require a programme, forget e-bay and just contact the club when they open again after the holiday. |

Apparently AFC Wimbledon have decided to recoup their losses on the two recent postponements and minimise potential losses from their two holiday games by issuing free four pagers instead of full programmes.
It's a shame they didn't think to issue the original two programmes with inserts - only the opposition details would require a change and the money spent on the original printing would be salvaged.
I understand the desire for reprints as well as the need for re-issuing, what I don't really understand is the need when re-issuing to use the original programme for the same opponents when, in AFC Wimbledon's case at least, maybe only 6 pages out of 64 are relevant to the opposition.
Yet another plus in the Carlisle box IMO. _________________ Newest programme wanted:

Madness it may be, but ask yourself this question.
What would you do if you were in their shoes?
I am talking buyer and seller.
You cannot tell me that any serious collector, with
cash to burn is not going to make a massive bid for
something that is deemed to be rare.
Didn't somebody pay £1,800 for a 62-3 Chelsea v Leeds
postponed a few weeks back.
One guy said earlier, it was postponed so no game,
but I would think if you did a straw poll on here, over
90% of us collectors will salivate when seeing an
unknown postponed issue from your particular club
that suddenly hits the market.
Guilty as charged here...Don't tell the missus though.
