Post subject: Strange programme descriptions on eBay - explained |

I've recently started seeing more and more irritating descriptions like this on eBay
This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of football history from the 1949/50 Football League game between Fulham and Sunderland. The programme is a valuable addition to any sports memorabilia collection, especially for fans of football. The programme features information on the Second Division Fixtures and League Fixtures from 1950-1958 and is a must-have for any serious collector. Aside from being a valuable collector's item, this programme is also a great way to revisit one of the classic football matches of the era. The programme is in excellent condition and has been well-preserved over the years. Don't miss out on this chance to own a piece of football history..
or this
Get your hands on this rare match ticket for the game between Aston Villa and Cardiff City during the 2016/17 season. It's a piece of sports memorabilia that would make any football fan's collection complete. The ticket features the two teams, Aston Villa and Cardiff City, who faced off in an exciting match during that season. Adding to its value, the ticket is from the Championship Fixtures and is a must-have for collectors of football programmes. Don't miss out on this opportunity to own a piece of history from the game between two legendary Clubs - Teams A-B and Teams C-E.
Anyway, what's happening is that eBay have quietly added a "Use AI description" button when you list. If this is selected you get the flowery text (or something similar) as above
Not a huge issue but the AI seems to assume perfect condition which can be irritating/misleading |

That's brilliant news Sid. I've got about half a dozen of those Cardiff tickets spare and so I'd better pop off and prepare for an AI retirement!! |

As I started reading the second description I thought "this looks very much like AI-generated text" and then I saw what you'd written at the bottom.
I think us of a certain age are going to get mightily fed up with this AI-speak which is bound to envelope itself in everything from now on. |

AI text is terrible - no doubt it will get better with the billions being invested but I can't see how it will ever improve on an actual person
Anyway, playing around with the eBay tool I produced this
Item title
Spurs v Burnley 2023/24 FA Cup torn in half, missing pages, covered in vomit
AI generated description
This rare piece of sports memorabilia is a must-have for any collector of football programmes. Featuring the 2023/24 FA Cup fixture between Spurs and Burnley, this programme is a testament to the passion and excitement of the game. Although it has been torn in half and some pages are missing, it still captures the essence of the match and the era in which it was played. Whether you are a die-hard fan of either team or simply appreciate the history of the sport, this programme is sure to make a unique addition to your collection. Please note that due to its age and condition, it is sold as seen and any imperfections, including the presence of vomit on the cover, are part of its character. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own a piece of football history. |

what a load of utter bollocks!.
All this is going to do is misrepresent the items and once the unscrupulous toe rags get involved there are going to be a lot of substandard utter crap being sold to unsuspecting buyers.
