If you had a time machine handily deposited in your living room, which specific game would you go back in time to watch and to purchase that elusive/much lusted after programme? Driving

I would have gone to the 1889 fa cup final and bought a job lot of the matchcards.
I would now retire immediatley and spend the next few years selling them and living on the profits.
if only...........

Spurs 2 Manchester United 1 - St. Helens School, Athersley, Barnsley

I would have loved to have been on the touchline watching Brian Glover.

Sorry......I mean Bobby Charlton.

Its any of Woolwich Arsenal's games pre Highbury then the first game at Highbury v Leicester. From a more modern perspective the May 1971 game at Spurs when we won our first double. I was only a small lad and not living locally but would be great to be there as a grown up

The 1901 FA Cup Final replay between Tottenham and Sheffield United at Burnden Park.
I don't know if there was a programme for this match but i'd keep my match ticket and get as many back issues of Bolton programmes from the season as possible.
1900/01 was the first season of programmes at Bolton and includes a tasty friendly against Glasgow Rangers.

Was indeed and is one of the reason’s they have become very hard to obtain as many fans used the programmes as cover from the torrential rain that evening and the fact it was watch by an attendance of just 7,968 didn’t help either

I'd go back to 12 September 1885 and watch Arbroath v Bon Accord. Final score 36-0. i'd take a few Victoria farthings with me and hunt down the programme seller 4 hours before kick off. Only trouble is if they were any programmes at the match and you were to bring any back they'd be in mint condition and worthless, who on earth would want one. A Carbon date testing on them would indicate they were only a few hours/days old so you'd never be able to pass them off as originals.

and as plastic bags were not invented then(1800s) , you could sell it in the time you travelled to for a fortune, then invest the money in shares , then go back to the future and collect a zillion pounds... then buy a crappy football club , pay crazy wages , and still win nothing... Confused

I would go back to the 3rd of April 1897.
The first game at Eastville against Aston Villa.
Good point about carbon dating so to get round this I would.
1. Buy loads of programmes (if there were any)
2. Put them one of those security boxes at a bank.
3. Come back to today and get them out of the bank.
4 Sell em for a fortune as carbon dating would now show them to be over 100 years old.

I'd go back to May 1966 and shoot Geof Hurst.

Surprised no-one's come up with that one before!

Not quite a game (or football related) but I’d revisit all those music festivals and concerts where I was too far gone to appreciate the music. Shocked

Enjoyed some really great times and have some good memories but missed out appreciating those performances that just cannot be repeated these days.

I know what you mean. I was telling this to a mate of mine a year or so ago and said I wish I'd seen Little Feat and Alex Harvey BAnd back in the 70s as I;d just bought two live CDs of them. He laughed and said they were the support bands at a WHo concert in Swansea in 1976(?). Apparently I was unconscious at the time!

Id go back to 9 Sep 1964 in Esbjerg, Denmark.

It was the day of Cardiffs first European Cup Winners Cup game and sadly being by faaaaaaaar (Laughing ) the youngest Cardiff supporter on here I have never had the opportunity to watch Cardiff play the likes of Real Madrid, Hamburg, Sporting Lisbon and many other great teams that we played so regularly during the 60s and 70s.

It also helps that the away programme is worth a pretty penny too Laughing

Tempting to say one might have done something for world peace and so on...

Obviously one might put a few handy bets on... but if really feeling evil -
On the sporting front (and slightly less altruistic) maybe affect a few results somehow! With all that power.. maybe one could influence a ref or two with a handy 'bribe' in the form of giving him a result or two to make a mint for himself...

Good job I'm the only one with the time machine then isn't it?

With regard to programmes probably just buy someone's collection from 50 years ago...
