Not expecting any for Palace - the one and only fixture I might strike lucky with is our friendly v Chelsea.

OK, this has been bugging me for a while but please don't take this as criticism, just curious....

It seems to me that badge collecting involves a lot of "self made" badges, by that I mean badges that have been commissioned by any old Tom, Dick or Harry in commemoration of a game.

The equivalent of me printing my own programme for Hearts games and starting a collection.

eg. for the Hearts v Wolves friendly, and me being a Hearts fan, I could design my own badge for the game, get it made, and stick it on ebay. It will have never been near Tynecastle and is completely unofficial. What makes these collectable?

At least with programmes you're collecting something that is in 99.9999% of cases officially produced by the club, but badges??

i suppose it's just what some folk decided to collect? like a certain niche in the badge world?
personally, i can see the interest in a match badge to commemorate a FINAL or perhaps the first or last game at a ground....especially if you attend the game....but apart from that, i agree with where you are coming from.
a simple club issue crest badge from each ground i visit is my chosen way...but, then again it's "each to their own" as they say Thumbs Up

Fair comment, however I collect Palace badges, and our club shop produced exactly zero new badges last season

In fact the only 'official' badge last season was the corporate sponsors badge for our away game at newcastle

most palace matches there isn't a badge done at all, so it's a manageable hobby collecting the dozen or so a season at the moment

People who collect Man Utd or Celtic have a harder problem because there is SO MUCH made, they have to draw a line as to what they collect, but for me, I can set my sets on getting everything.

I knoiw a Celtic fan who travels to most European games, and he produces badges to fund his trips, totally justified I think!

Some clubs such as my own Cliftonville FC, produce 'official' match day badges on occasions. For our pre-season friendly with FC United of Manchester we got together and produced joint badges sold by both clubs with all profits going to support both clubs.
