A few months ago I posted a thread about club programme & memorabilia guide books, citing the Everton "Toffee Pages" and "Dr Everton's Magnificent Obsession" as being fantastic examples.

I also have a Forest book ("How they got on?") and the Derby book called "Relics of the Rams". These aren't checklists of issues, but show a wide range of items.

At the Yorkshire Fair yesterday whilst rummaging amongst the usual trove of treasures at Mick Hewitt's Emporium, I stumbled across another such book by Lester and Mark Davidson about Burnley collectables.

Called " A pictorial guide to the programmes and Ephemera of Burnley Football club" it does exactly what it says on the cover - 262 pages of programmes, tickets, badges etc. Great stuff.

There must be quite a few other clubs who have had similar books produced - please add to this thread with any others as I'd be interested to snap up any more.

PS - how is 'ephemera" pronounced ?

there was a magazine all about Sunderland programmes, I think it was supposed to be bi monthly or something like that. I think it lasted about 3 or 4 copies but it had some intersting articles.

Che-ears Jake !

I'm surprised how few clubs have such books, although TBF it's probably collectors like us who have to fund the printing of them which is a big risk so maybe it's not a surprise after all?

I susbscribe to the (Manchester) United Review Collectors Newsletter which comes out 6 times a year, and has loads of interesting stuff in it. Still find it sad that United don't have a 'proper' book though other than the Ally Ward guides, given the quality of stuff on treble99's and manchesterunitedman1's flickr sites.

Maybe the web is the way forward to display such quality collections, but you can't beat paper copies IMO.

There have been a few Arsenal programme guides.

Leonard Evans has produced at least 5:

Home programmes 1946 - 1983

Away programmes 1946 - 1987

Home programmes 1904 - 1939

Andrew Miller and Richard Lerman produced one in 1993

I have a copy of a CHELSEA HOME PROGRAMME GUIDE 1946-1998. This was compiled by Scott Cheshire and Michael Levy and details all First XI and Reserve fixtures at Stamford Bridge. It also contains details of any youth team games that programmes were produced for as well as any other/neutral games that were played at the Bridge.

I don't know why but I have a slight nagging thought in the back of my brain that suggested there may be a similar guide for Chelsea away's but maybe someone else can confirm this fact.

There was a Liverpool guide produced in the mid-90s, I have a copy somewhere. Detailed all first team games (inc minor cups and friendlies) from the war up to about 94-5. Few if any pictures in it- it was a hom-made spiral bound effort- but a good resource.

And the Northern Ireland programme collectors club produced an excellent guide to Northern Irish programmes last year, including internationals at all levels, cup finals, Irish League clubs in Europe, inter-league games, friendlies etc.

There are two different Rangers programme guides brought out in the late 1980s.

I buy a lot of Arsenal programmes from Andrew Miller these days - great service! And he still has a programme stall close to the stadium.

I should do as I was the third member of the team! Andrew dropped out pretty soon after it was launched when he realised that typing in hundreds of adverts wasn't as easy as first thought. I think I must have been involved for about 5 years before leaving Richard to carry the can by himself.

There was a Plymouth guide . A4 postwar....kind of photocopied thing...had interesting bits in it like the various different colour flimsy papers that existed for various 45/6 & 46/7 homes as if getting one of each wasn't hard enough.

I had a copy but its buried somewhere...needs an update I reckon, but not sure I am the man to do it Smile

mate of mine also has spreadsheets for Youth team/reserves and SWL etc...

never ending really!

Most Plymouth post 1959 but plenty of others including reserves, friendlies, Cup Finals Internationals and Club issues, handbooks and other sports.

There's a Newport County programme book in existence, which covers the first ten years when the club reformed in 1989 as "Newport AFC," up until 1999 when they reverted back to the traditional name of "Newport County."

It has a photo of every programme cover issued for those first ten years, including obscure friendlies.
It was produced by then club photographer Colin Jeremiah in softback, and had a very low print run - hence it is extremely difficult to obtain nowadays, if not nigh on impossible.

It's a lovely memento of those first ten years when Newport worked their way back up through the pyramid from what was not too far off parks level (they seem to let phoenix clubs start a lot higher up the pyramid these days).

Here's a couple of images ...

The Heart of Midlothian FC Programme Guide by John R. Ure was published in 1993 and covers all Homes and Aways to 1992-93.

A small booklet was also published by Brian Ramsay titled as above plus the word 'UPDATE' which covered the seasons 1993-94 to 2004-05.
