Every club had covers, this Middlesbrough example has been in a BV -but
I believe there was confusion about 10 years earlier re Middlesbrough covers[1912-1915??} as there was more than one type for the same games??-cannot recall the details but Rocky will know for sure.

The Middlesbrough programme book confirms there would have been a cover for this one which is missing here

Looking at the illustrations in the book the cover didn't change much in the 1920s - the Sport & Gazette logo at the top and underneath an advert for Stewarts tailors

The listing does say it is probably from a bound volume
