(local government in Scotland was reorganised from counties and burghs to regions and districts effective Friday 16th May 1975)

Manchester United 4-3 Europe
"50 Years of Europe"
(half-century anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome was Sunday 25th March 2007)




Can anyone think of any other such matches?

Local, national or international... marking starts, ends or anniversaries.

I guess the Festival of Britain matches vaguely fall into this sort of field.

7th-19th May 1951

The aim of the Festival of Britain was to aid a feeling of National recovery, 6 years after the end of WWII

Some people pointed to it also being a hundred years on from the 1851 Great Exhibition (Crystal Palace)!
