Really sorry to hear this.

John stayed over at my house when his beloved Auchinleck were drawn to play Hermes up here in the Cup 3 or 4 years back - we had a good yap about football, politics (another big interest of his!) and programmes over a curry then I introduced him to all 3 of Culter's local hostelries.

One of the good guys - he helped many of us with our collections over the years and he'll be sadly missed by all.

What a bloody year this has been.

So sorry to hear this.

I, for one, always look out for Auchinleck Talbot's results because of him. The very fabric of football is woven from the likes of him.

RIP John.

Very sad news once again. I suppose there is some consolation in him having passed away quietly.

Never had the pleasure of meeting him myself, but ironically my wife did. He bought a bundle of books from me a few years ago, and as the missus was heading up to Dumfries a few days later to see relatives, she very kindly took them up for me.

My very best wishes to his family.

Lee (& Helen).

Terribly sad news.

Top man, big loss, had many conversations with him over the years.

Always had a kind word with my little un's at Fairs, normally about Grimsby.

I remember him one year doing an auction fair at Meadowbank, in Edinburgh one year, and the boys looking at him gone out as he tried to explain that Auchinleckian, were a Scottish team and not some 3rd Division team from Estonia.

Thoughts with the family.

I am trying not to be over sentimental but we have lost two really good people....could they be remembered on the site by putting their names on the categories....Everything Scottish in Honour of John, Forthcoming fairs in honour of Gordon?

Just a thought....

Peter
