I have come across a Wigan Athletic v Chorley programme March 4th 1950 I'm guessing Lancashire Combination although programme is in a very tidy condition, information inside is limited to 2 of its 6 fold out pages. Would appreciate any help valuing it.

Already you intrigue me in your role of the local sheriff, now unless I'm mistaken and you are unable to read it says at the top of the page,

GET A VALUATION HERE

You could have suggested politely 'not a lot mate' da di da di da!

Sod all, has a certain vagueness to it, don't you agree?

If no one else comments, then so be it.

Nevertheless, thank you for your appraisal of the programme, which is noted meaning we have nothing further to say to one another on the subject.

You take care.

I would imagine if you were to list it on ebay you could hopefully get around the £35 to £40 mark. They're not exactly common as muck, so perhaps even more on a good day.

Hope that helps?

Certainly not common and putting on ebay is a good option. As you think it has a little value, more than a couple of quid, start it at £19.99 and then you don't end up giving it away. If it doesn't sell then you can regroup and think again and you have lost nothing if your listing is free. You may get an offer from someone off he forum, you never know.

I'm not sure it will go for as much as twenty quid. Prices for 50's programmes seem to be dropping currently. If you were unsure then I would always go for a lower amount of 99p and let it find its own level.

Auction houses always recommend a 'come and get me price' to encourage bidders. If its worth anything then no one will let it go at 99p, so they bid. Once they are bidding they are sucked in and resent any other bidders out bidding them and the price goes up. EBay is littered with programmes where the starting price is unreasonable.

Pedantry aside, its classed as a 1940s issue from the 1949-50 season.

Watch the auctions at sportingold, and watch what the non league stuff goes for from that era, especially the northern clubs, and especially clubs like Wigan whose 1940s issues tend be rarer than hen's teeth. You usually see a good number of pre League Gillingham, Shrewsbury and Colchester at auction and on ebay, but Scunthorpe and Wigan tend to be a lot much harder to come by.

North / South divide?

Despite all the noise I would imagine £45+ if in good{no major faults}
condition as there are enough serious Wigan collectors who may require it.

You're talking crap Leigh. You'd be lucky to get £20 for it. There were some 50's Wigan programmes on Sporting Memorys (sic) auction this week that didn't sell.

Why are you being so aggressive with posts that you disagree with, or those that ask questions to which you can not give a reasoned response?

As a Wigan collector their are a couple of newish collectors who seem to go head to head for certain programmes if this is on their hit list you will be rewarded handsomely.
On the other hand I have never been able to fathom their strategy as on occasion I have picked up rare issues with no opposition, yet other times I have been blown out of the water.
Its the old story of you could get £80+ but if they are not interested?
But from my stand point I've seem them pay £50's and £60's for progs I thought were over priced by a long way, and by no means rare, progs from this era are rare the issue is how many active Latics collectors are about? you need more than one.
I wish you luck with your sale.
