I think I may have overestimated the value of my own collection.

Lot 971 'READING Eleven home programmes: Notts. County and Swindon 48/9, Watford 54/5, Southend, Millwall and Gillingham 55/6, 2 X 56/7 and 3 X 57/8. Generally good'

went for a grand total of £15.

Why is it that the programmes I have, go for a song, while the ones I need cost a fortune?

On the other hand, I had some Rangers tickets in - more in hope than expectation - and had minimum guide prices of £25 - £30 for each of the lots. 37 modern European homes went for £110, 20 modern finals and semi finals went for £80, and 37 modern friendlies went for £80 as well. That's about £200 more than I had really hoped for. There's no logic, but it does mean our Beechwood Park Regeneration Fund will be £600 better when we get the remittance.

On an ever nicer note, the total from these lots at sportingold now means that we have broken through the £20,000 mark since I started running an untried programme hut, totally dependent on fan's donations in late 2013. Our floodlights eventually go up at the start of August, and cost us £60,000 so it's really nice to know that reycycled bits of paper have contributed approximately a third of their total cost.

I was well outbid on three lots and managed to bag one for what I had set as my maximum price.

It seems that in these COVID days the quality end of the market is still very buoyant. Long may it continue.

Well done, John.

An excellent effort in a great cause.

It was slim pickings for a Reading Collector, who doesn’t venture into Pre-War Issues, but the sale definitely provided a day’s entertainment for someone who is still off work. At one point the auctioneer said ‘you can always get more money, when are you going to find another one of these’,
I wonder if that argument will work on the wife.
