The Texaco Cup was a competition sponsored by the petrol company for clubs from the home nations that had not qualified for European competitions. It ran for five or six years in the early 70's I think. I am not sure of the selection process for teams.

Palace played Hearts the one time we went in for it. And lost.

Interesting idea for a competition though. Would be amazing to have something like this now.

The only ones I have are for season 72/3 when Derby beat Airdrie in the two-legged final.
The away games at Newcastle and Dundee United had special Texaco Cup covers, Stoke just issued their standard programme..
The final at Airdrie was a large-sized issue which I'm guessing was far more elaborate than the home team's normal programme.

The attendances were quite healthy for those matches.

I have the four programmes for Tottenham's involvement in the Texaco Cup, home and away against Dunfermline and Motherwell. I even attended the Motherwell home match!

After five years of sponsoring the competition, Texaco pulled out and the Anglo Scottish Cup was formed in it's place.

Hearts were the only team to compete in all five seasons.

An interesting aspect of the competition was the inclusion of Irish clubs (North and South) in the first couple of seasons. Two clubs from the Republic and two from the North participated, with the Irish clubs kept together in the early rounds, which mean't that the Irish 'winners' qualified for the semi-finals. Derry City played Wolves in the 70-1 semi, Ballymena played Airdrie in the 71-2 semi. The Derry-Wolves programme is hard to find.

After two season the Irish clubs withdrew due to the volatile political situation in the North. This was around the time Northern Ireland were forced to play a number of home games in England. After a season off an Irish-only version of the Texaco Cup was run again in 1973-74 and 1974-75. The competition coincided with a big dip in form for Dundal, so it's not a particular area of collecting interest for me Smile

I thought I had a spare of the Motherwell away one, but my initial search has not been successful. I will keep looking for you James. Somebody has one on Ebay buy it now for £4.99 plus postage. I couldn't copy the link though.

I watched a very good Southampton team destroy Rangers 3-1 at Ibrox in 1974. It wasn't a very popular tournament but there was 40,000 at that game.

Blackpool's only participation in the Texaco Cup was at the start of the 1974/5 season.

Unfortunately there were no individual programmes produced for the home games with Oldham Athletic and Manchester City or for the away fixture at Sheffield United.

There was however a 20 page programme covering all the fixtures in Group 3.

The Texaco Cup became the Anglo-Scottish cup which was last played for in 1980/81 with Chesterfield beating Notts county over 2 legs in the final. The Anglo Scottish cup still sits in the trophy cabinet in the main reception at Chesterfield.

Chesterfield beat Rangers over 2 legs in the quarter final in that year.

I have all the Scottish home issues in both the Texaco and Anglo Scottish cup.
I have been thinking about collecting the aways but I gather there might be a couple of really difficult ones. Does anyone know ??
From memory a Partick Thistle at Bristol City might be a hard to obtain single sheet ?

Thanks Benno but at the moment I want to find out if there are some stinkers to obtain
Quite happy with the homes but in future may consider the aways if relatively easy to get hold off

I don't think the Scottish aways in the Texaco are to tricky except for Ballymena v Airdrie.

I need Forest v Airdrie and Newcastle V Dundee Utd - in terms of Scottish aways - and plenty of Scottish homes.

The Scottish homes are more tricky. I still haven't found St Johnstone v Norwich; nor St Johnstone against the team who cannot be named but are 40 miles from Norwich are wear blue!

Not sure about Anglo Scottish.

Pete Rundo usually sells Texaco/Anglo on e-bay in batches of ten cheaply.

All Texaco Cup issues at Wolves are generally easy to get hold of.

Any one have a copy of Dundee v Wolves 16/9/1970 they have spare and would like to part with????

Same story for Sunderland's only venture, also in 74-75. Just the one brochure for the group
