A few years ago when scanning programme covers, I came across the Charlton v Derby 16 January 1965 issue which had the back page neatly cut out. Assuming it had been damaged by a previous owner removing a form, or perhaps a photo of a favourite player, I thought nothing of it, added it to my spares pile and made a note to buy a replacement.

Several months later a copy was purchased on eBay but when it arrived the back page had also been neatly removed. A coincidence I thought until a third copy was obtained, again with the same problem. The story behind the missing page is to do with one of Charlton Athletic’s greatest ever players….and a packet of bacon and cheese.

Want to know more? The full article is at http://www.derbycountymemories.....-back-page

Enjoy!

Awesome, great story, well researched and presented, thanks! It could so easily have been a case of a season ticket application form or similar, great to get to the bottom of it. Love the idea that Charlton went down the road of manually cutting out maybe 5,000 back pages rather than destroying the lot and losing out on 5,000 sixpences.

There is one inaccuracy in the article. Whilst it is true that Colin Cameron kept the one complete copy, Colin's collection which was a very comprehensive post war Charlton collection came up for auction about 5 years ago at Graham Budd's. One of the lots contained this programme and I bought this particular lot solely to buy various Charlton Reserves for my own collection. One of the leading Charlton collectors contacted me and took this programme off my hands so unless he has subsequently donated it to the Charlton museum then it is firmly in the hands of this collector.

Thanks for the information. As the saying goes, 'when there is one...'
