Postcard of the Bury team that won the English Cup at the Crystal Palace in 1903 defeating Derby County 6-0, a record win that was only matched 116 years later, the then Prestigious Manchester Senior Cup & The Lancashire Senior Cup are also on display in this early original postcard.
The "English Cup" pictured in this team group has directly behind it Charles Sagar who joined Bury in 1898 from Turton Rovers. Sagar won the English Cup also in 1900 when Bury defeated Southampton 4-0 at the Crystal Palace. Capped twice by England Sagar also played 4 times for the Football League. After scoring 70 goals for Bury and being their top scorer between 1903-05, Charles Sagar left in 1905 to join Manchester United.
He scored a brilliant hattrick on his debut and assisted United to win promotion as Division Two Runners Up in 1905-06 despite only being able to play 20 times in that promotion season due to a troublesome knee injury.
This injury was to put an end to his League career and United released him in 1907 where he went onto play for Atherton FC and then Haslingden FC in 1909.
Not a bad acquisition for £11.50 off ebay!

John, as i explained above there is a player link, but i would buy it anyway as i live in the Borough of Bury and am interested in early postcards of local teams and English Cup Winners is a big deal with Manchester and the Lancashire Cup, seller was to lazy to research it and had no idea the FA CUP was one of the trophies. _________________ Leslie Millman
