I bought a few England photos this week, not sure what was among them, and so when these arrived I was delighted.

The first one is a teaser because it's the England Youth team, April 1963, which won the European Youth Final by beating Northern Ireland 4-0 at Wembley. Any Youth team with Ron Harris as skipper and Tommy Smith must have half a chance and were unlikely to be muscled out of any game! But who can name the other 9 players? They aren't named on the back and I'm struggling. All help much appreciated. (I think John Sissons is to the right of Chopper with his shirt off).

Next, Scotland 2 v England 0, Hampden, April 1962. Looks like it could be Billy McNeill (?) heading over his own crossbar while Eric Caldow (by post) and the No 4 look on. Is the No 4 Pat Crerand? He played in this game. The 2 England players are Bobby Smith 9 and Johnny Haynes.
Thoughts appreciated again please.

Finally for now 5 England players on their way to Poland for the World Cup qualifier, June 1973. No mystery here - Allan Clarke, Mike Summerbee, Alan Ball, Bobby Moore and Martin Peters, all very smart, relaxed and about to be taken apart by Lubanski & Co.

I just checked one of my books, Pat Crerand was indeed wearing the no4 jersey that day and it is Billy McNeil heading over the bar.

There are match details in, I think, either the May or June 1963 issue of Football Monthly.
I can't check at present but perhaps someone here can?

Correct Steve, in the June 63 issue it gives the team as...

Cowen (Chelsea) Badger (Sheff U) Shaw (Sheff U) Smith (Liverpool) Chatterley (Villa) Harris (Chelsea) French (Shrewsbury) Sammels (Arsenal) Jones (Bury) Sissons (West Ham) Whittaker (Arsenal)

35,000 watched at Wembley

4-0 with goals by Napier (og) Sammels Whittaker Sissons

Pat Jennings in goal for Norn Iron just before going to Watford I think as it states he plays for Newry

My thanks to Eck, Bazza, Steve & Ruud - much appreciated.

In the Youth team pic some famous names there including the notorious Graham French, then of Shrewsbury and born Graham Lafite. Now need to work out which is which!

Cheers guys.

Bernard Shaw bottom left (hand on floor) good f/b gave great service to Wolves 70s very underated player IMO seen him score a great 35yarder in a 1-1 with Man United Molineux early 70s.

Could be Bazza, thanks.

This is Len Badger in 1974 but I can't for the life of me pick him out of this team photo.

Lew Chatterley of Villa is standing, 3rd left, with arm up.

So now:-

Smith standing 2nd left
Harris with cup
Sammels standing 2nd right
Sissons crouching no shirt 2nd right
Shaw crouching hand on floor
French standing far right
Badger sitting on floor side on.
Chatterley standing, 3rd left, arm up

That leaves keeper Cowen of Chelsea, Jones centre forward of Bury, and Whittaker forward of Arsenal. Anyone?

Thanks again all who've helped.

Cowen probably is the one with no shirt on as the other 2 missing are both wearing white shirts so prob wouldn't be the keeper.

Nice photo Bazza. Is it for sale? Very Happy

The goalkeeper standing on the left is John Cowen. Released by Chelsea and played for Hastings United and Gravesend Northfleet. He was a member of the 'Fleet side that won the Southern League Div 1 South in 74-75.
