Just read about the passing of Tommy Smith of Liverpool FC fame---he had the reputation of being the Liverpool hard man and earned it by his strong performances----the fans called him the 'Aintree Iron'----typical scouser humour.

RIP Tommy---you will not be forgotten.

Sad to hear yet another all-time legend of both Liverpool and the game has passed away.
I saw Tommy Smoth play against the Revie Leeds team many times in the 1960w/70s - great games, great times.

Very sad to hear the passing of another one of my childhood heroes. What he lacked in skill, he made up for with pure heart and endeavour. A direct link between 2 of Liverpool's greatest eras he was totally inspirational to everyone connected with the club.

Personally, he gave me one of my best moments ever in all my years of watching the Reds. With extra time looming, Tommy's unlikely figure came soaring through the Roman night sky to head the crucial second goal in the 1977 European Cup Final. Unbeleivable euphoric scenes ensued.

"Quarried, not born" Thanks Tommy - The Anfield Iron

RIP

All the above. "The Anfield Iron".

When he tackled you, you stayed tackled.

RIP Tommy.

Sad news today at Tommy's passing.

Hugely important player for many seasons at Liverpool, protecting many fledgling players as they came through the ranks.
One of those players that other teams fans didn't like, but all secretly would have had him in their team.

RIP Iron Man
