An interesting article in today's Times about the above.

I have tried to post a link but the online version is only viewable by subscription.

I have found the following review from one website but I would recommend a read of The Times article or the book for this remarkable story.

It is a fantastic story, with Patrick O'Connell spending so many years in Spain and the successes that he enjoyed whilst there.

It would be interesting to see the official Football League report in to the 1915 betting scandal that involved United and Liverpool players. The story is out there in the public domain on what was 'supposed' to have happened but it would be interesting to read just what evidence the Football League had on each player charged in the scandal.

I previewed this book in Programme Monthly a couple of years ago. A superb and heartwarming read in the face of genuine adversity and the rise of fascism in Spain in the 1930s.

Don Patracio in his days as the Captain of Manchester United

I doubt that 99.99% attending the game tomorrow including the owners at Manchester United would have ever heard of this amazing man.
