Earliest pict of Pompey......1968/69 team photo

Nicky Jennings with gloves

Mine you it was taken at the "Den", millwall

Might be to fend off lumps of concrete / bricks that the local favoured then !!

Confused Confused

(not the best of picture quality)

Pompeypete, l see the one and only Mike Trebilcock with the ball at his feet. He will always be a hero with older Evertonians, along with Derek Temple of course, for their 1966 FA Cup goals when all seemed lost in the final.

The very biggest clubs don't particularly care - whenever kick off is, they will fill the seats, if necessary with foreign tourists who spend £££ in the club shop as well

Brighton v Palace 12th Jan 1963 and Peter Burridge blasts one in - wearing yellow gloves (as did Cliff Holton on the same day so it was de riguer at Selhurst in 1963).

Next Saturday in R3, Palace are at home to Grimsby with a 5:30pm kick off so it can be televised to Thailand, Korea and Fiji. Despite that, League Two Grimsby Town with an average home gate of about 4000 have sold out their allocation of 4000 and asked for another 1000. This is at £15/head, at 5:30 pm, a 420 mile round trip, on the first Saturday of 2019. That is pretty amazing. In a way, I hope their trip is rewarded with a suitable result. Easy Clap Thumbs Up

That last comment sums up the FAC........

Lower league clubs, still excited

Will be interesting what team Palace put out (the 'A' should be strong enough)

If its not the 1st team, then I say the FAC has been DISRESPECTED again.

Finishing 4th from bottom will be a sucessful season & another £100 M

Its about time the premiership clubs were barred, no interest at the top or bottom Shocked Shocked

There’s a pattern forming here Pete. Chelsea, Palace, don’t know about the other London clubs. l wonder did some enterprising sports supplier down South take advantage of the artic conditions of early 1963 and supply the clubs with gloves? Mind you, like most people , few of us thought it would last until March. Can’t remember any teams in gloves up North. As for the Scottish clubs , they were probably still wearing short sleeved jerseys and it must have been bloody freezing up there!

Brian Wood also wore gloves in the same match but Palace goalkeeper Bill Glazier DID NOT WEAR GLOVES in the game

Gloves worn with short sleeves was always a contradiction in terms until you realise the makers logos are fully visible so all the team now wear all the same gloves, no individual choice. Another cheque in the post!!!
