A visit to Leeds programme fair next Saturday. Don't expect to pick anything up but may try and make some connections to help me find some Scunthorpe programmes I'm missing. |

Still at least two more games for me this season. At a Welsh League game today, and have a Coventry Alliance League game on Tuesday |

Well there is the world cup to look forward to watching and with the tournament now being something like 96 teams it will last for about 3 months.
Otherwise it's from one useless national team to another and watching cricket. If ever there was a sport suited to having a few jars then it is cricket. If it is sunny then beers while watching and if it is rainy then beers while waiting to watch.
In the good old days you could even see a few footballers during the cricket season. In particular I remember Jim Cumbes, Arnie Sidebottom and Chris Balderstone. |

Goonerboy, it’s hard to imagine that once upon a time, some top footballers were also county cricketers as well. As you said, Jimmy Cumbes was an excellent goalie for Tranmere, then Villa and West Brom. l remember Jim Standen , the West Ham goalie , who was also a top bowler for Worcester in the early 1960s. Apparently Geoff Hurst was a sound cricketer . I can’t imagine modern players even being allowed to switch over to cricket by their clubs during the summer, even if they had the talent! I recall that a lot of teams would play cricket against local teams, pre-season. I remember taking the kids to see the Liverpool double team of 1980s playing in a charity game during that era. Their opponents were Everton. There’s even photos of the great Georgie Best playing cricket knocking around!

Ex-Liverpool and Coventry goalkeeper Steve Ogrizovic was another - his greatest sporting moment - bowling out Viv Richards when playing for Shropshire against Somerset. _________________ http://willjam100.wix.com/wolvesindetail |
