Hello Ian,

The Chelsea team against Swansea Reserves was as follows

Tommy Hughes
Derek Vaughan
Michael Maskell
Brian Turner
Allan Young
Stewart Houston
Joe Fascione
Barry Lloyd
Ian Hutchinson
Alan Hudson
Ken Halliday
Sub : Alan Cocks

I think it could be either Vaughan or Maskell as neither made a competitive 1st team appearance & are both listed as defenders in the handbook from the 1969/70 season.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Martin

Cheers Martin for your comprehensive answer.

So it’s probably Vaughan or Maskell then.

That’s really helpful.

Hi All,

Fascinating item. It's definitely Derek Vaughan. I know cos it's me and I was there! Blimey, I was 17 and had just turned pro. The team sheet shows me as right back and in those days that was always number 2 as shown on the shorts. It's not Mickey Maskell or Charlie Morrison as I was much better looking than both of them!

That reserve team had some really good players in the side as I'm sure you can see.

I hope this helps.

Regards

Derek Vaughan

Hi Derek,

That's fantastic.

You're right that certainly is a talented forward line in that reserve team.

There is a pen picture of you in the Chelsea home programme against Mancheter City played on the 2nd November 1968. I have a spare copy if you don't have it contact me on [email protected] & i will gladly pop one in the post to you.

If you don;t mind me asking whee did you go when you left Chelsea ?

Cheers
Martin

Yes, all very good. Welcome to the Forum, Derek.

Over the years I've made contact with quite a few ex-players and their families, and I can say that whether the photo is worth £3 or £33 there's nothing that gives me more pleasure.

One example is Dick Robinson, who played over 400 games for Middlesbrough through the 50's. I'm in touch with his daughter who lives in Barrow In Furness and have managed to find 4 or 5 Boro photos with her dad in, she's thrilled to bits and we always have a lovely chat about him when we speak. That personal touch means more to me than anything else.

Afternoon all
Sorry to piggy back
My cousin Allan Jones was a pro footballer in the late 50's to early 70's
He hailed from North Wales and signed by Liverpool as a youth His claim to fame was that he played in Bill Shankley's first ever Liverpool team but made only 4 other appearance before transferring to Brentford where he played for about 10 years before ending his playing days in Australia

He was posthumously inducted in to Brentford's hall of fame.

I remember as a small lad seeing him on LWT's "The Big Match " for a few minutes in the 3rd match on and he had a few touches. It's a shame that I don't recall meeting him but would love to find some press photo's featuring him. Some kind soul did manage to find a few team groups that he featured in that the were in the Soccer publications of the day

It would be lovely if someone can help as it would mean a lot to his daughter
Kind regards Paul

Hi Ian,

I wish you were right ! It's certainly a good photo of me.

I'm intrigued to know where you got the photo from. First team action photos were fairly common in those days but it was much less so with Reserve matches. I've not got any others like this so I'm pleased you've dug it up from somewhere.

Is your "Baltimore" a reference to Ohio, in which case what's the Chelsea connection?

Regards

Derek Vaughan

Hi Derek,

I am an avid press photo collector, and it originated from an Australian collector.

Baltimore- is a reference to Baltimore,Maryland,USA.

My wife of 30 years was born there, and we visit there once or twice a year to visit friends and family.

To add a little more intrigue, we spend most of our early retired life in Northern France, near Le Touquet. The current location of the aforesaid photo.

Can I send you a good copy, at my expense? Please send me a private email.

Thanks for brightening a dull November afternoon.

You have missed a few Allan Jones Brentford pictures on eBay, so did I, but then you're up against a very deep pocketed Brentford supporter that scoops up everything and the items are never to be seen again......even for a new book on Griffin Park the said buyer refused to share some items we know he has.......anyway, the ones on ebay recently which he has...

I also have a few team photos, mostly the magazine type, but this is the 1969/70 press photo of the squad that I have. Allan Jones, first from the left in the back row.
