would be interested to hear thoughts/intents about collecting pirates ? I have a small handful of Arsenal ones from 40s to early 70s so they appear to have been around for a while. I guess they were sold by the spivs of the day as I often see adverts in club programmes saying that offical programme only available inside ground or official sellers. Did all clubs have them and all matches ? Were they organised or would there have been multiple types ? Why and when did they die out ? Does anyone collect them and how do you find out what matches might be available ?

From what dad said to me most of cardiff's big matches @ Ninian use to have pirates, ive certainly picked up lots of european pirates played at Ninian, along with wales games played in cardiff from the 60s.

Ive also a few internationals against wales, along with fa cup semi finals.

Im sure a few of the "mature" Smile collectors will be able to advise what was around at the time.

Its an interesting question.
Ive got a few pirates for Notts Co.home and away games from the 40s and 50s.
Funnily the 2 Notts home pirates are for league games while the aways at Bolton,Leyton Orient, and Swindon are for F.A. cup games.
If I see a pirate for a game Ive not got a copy for I generally would make an offer.

Hi
I have a few in my collection, particularly fa cup finals from pre 1950 which end up being a little bit cheaper than the real macoy.
I also have a Munich year pirate Man utd v Dukla Prague.
Always interested in adding to the collection if anybody has any pre 60s issues.
Holtie
