We get to see a female spectator holding a pre-war Arsenal home in "The Arsenal Stadium Mystery" but keep an eye out for the 1953 movie "The Great Game".
Chairman of "Burnville United" gets himself into hot water over the illegal poaching of his main rival's star midfielder - but he also owns the company that prints the Burnville United programme, a tantalising glimpse of which we are treated to in a couple of scenes.
You can see the programme one minute into this clip (filmed at Griffin Park):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFzcqm3nxpo
More a movie prop than a programme, I suppose, but would be a nice item for the collection.
Any other old movies anyone knows about where we see a programme? _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

There was a film in the 90's starring Sean Bean as a Sheffield United footballer, tink it was called something like When Saturday Comes.
The basic storyline was that Sean Bean left school to work in 'the factory' (Stones Brewery?) but still reamed of being a footballer, and somehow made it.
Can't remember why but there was a bit of storyline about a family member having a few very old (early 1900's?) Sheffield United programmes, and something to do with selling these treasures!
Maybe a Sheff United fan will have a better recollection? |

Lol, I used to watch Brooky and remember this.
I think he mentioned a Wrexham v Newport County programme as well.

I just watched the clip......he mentions the Wrexham v Newport programme being worth £11.......allowing for increase in value, inflation etc, Wiggy must be sitting on a potential goldmine |

Brilliant!
But aren't all one-club collectors just a wee bit eccentric?
I know I am |

Yes Sean's brother in the film collects programmes.
He brings him a 1966 World Cup Final Programme, but there is a glimpse of piles of programmes including a pre-war one.
Their old man sells them to pay off his gambling debts shortly before the lad dies in a mining accident.
A bit of footage of the world's oldest football ground (Hallam FC) thrown in as well _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/sharrowblade/sets

It was Sharrow who bought the programmes Dorking.
Sean Bean's still looking for him.

Does anyone remember the following series ?
United! was a British television series which was produced between 1965 and 1967, and was broadcast twice-weekly on BBC1.
The series followed the fortunes of a fictional second division football team, Brentwich United.
The football scenes were filmed on the grounds of Stoke City with Jimmy Hill acting as a technical advisor
BBC even printed a league table in the Radio Times every week !
As was common television practice of the time, the series' videotapes were wiped for reuse. As a result, none of its 147 episodes are believed to have survived.....surely with nigh on 150 episodes being transmitted, you would expect to see a few fictional progs knocking around on screen ? |

Sure do remember it!
I went to this match at Nuneaton Boro's ground - I suddenly remembered I have this programme, filled in by me. What a galaxy of Midland stars and I had no idea who they were at the time.
I can't quite believe my eyes! |
