Which club do you think has the Greatest ever cover on their programme? My favourites are Pre war Bradford PA and Port Vale from the early 50s. And of course i have no photos to show you. But they really are terrific works of art . Would anyone ever buy a programme because they love the cover?

I think there's definately "iconic" covers, such as Man Utd's handshakes cover, Chelsea's pre-war, Wolves 1950's etc.

I suppose it's personal preference. Some of the 1940's Hull City covers catch my eye (dont have any though Laughing )

I've got a collection going on for the iconic Wembley programmes. The 54-62 ones, white and green with red writing, like this one.

My favourite Wednesday/Hillsborough ones are for the Floodlight games during the late 50's/early 60's like this one

The most aesthetically pleasing to the eye programmes just have to be the Celtic 1960's European homes.
Very simple, white background, opposing teams club emblem on the cover and match details make these items worthy of hanging in a gallery. Superb.
BTW, for those who like footballing art, the museum at Camp Nou has original posters framed from the 20's and 30's that are simply breathtaking.
Agre the Hull 40's programmes are also eye catching, as are their successor in the early 50's. Derby Countys' programmes from 50-1 onwards (I think) with the player and rams head look like a bad trip from the 1960's...allegedly! But superb, off the wall artwork.

I like the format that many clubs used many years ago where they had arial piccies of the stadia on the cover.

They covered both of my fav football topics. Progs and stadia.

I agree with the majority of suggestions listed.

The Port Vale is excellent and as John says you cant beat Celtic's European efforts in the 60's.

For some reason always liked the Southampton programme from the late fifties ....

I hate the modern gloss programmes but must say the Baggies produce a great programme now and some of the cover in the last five years have been great.

Shot at 2008-11-21

Probably my favorite BUFC programme cover, we did these for all floodlit cup and friendly games in the 58/9 and 59/60 seasons.

Have to say I like the 60's West Ham ones, those cover pictures reek of nostalgia.

Not that far apart from the wednesday floodlight one I referred too. Must have been a common theme from that era.

I still like those programmes produced in the twenties and thirties, with a comic strip affect on them, Park Avenue did some good ones to.

Crystal Palace had some fantastic covers from the 20s up to the mid 50s, but oh dear what happened in the 60s early 70s? This has got to be one of the most boring covers of all time. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Crystal-.....562c220909

Some Non-League clubs produced some great programme covers between the war & the late 1960`s, but the ones that stand out for me are from a team called Banbury Spencer, they come up on ebay fairly often and sell at a slight premium due to (I think) their cover.

Wolves - Liverpool 75-6 was a great cover. A really tatty version visible here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/wolves-l.....3001r11282

Wolves needed a win to stay up, Liverpool needed to win to win the title.

The thread is titled Best Ever Covers. This is probably one of the worst. The pink covered Middlesbrough programmes were produced for the whole of the 62/3 season. Has a club ever produced a worse one?

My favourite Leeds cover is the home copy from 47/48 season. Also like the Chelsea pre-war issues.
