Bristol rovers 1950 team line up query

Can anyone explain this centre page line up? It is double, did they do this for all games or is it a printing error or was it in case you were doing handstands when reading?

It's not a printing error. Rovers used this system for a few seasons in the early 50's.

I will attempt an explanation. I believe it works like this! Kind of works better if you imagine that you are on the side of the pitch.

Using the example shown, when Rovers are playing left to right, you hold the programme normally, so right back, right half etc are closest to you.

When Rovers are playing right to left, you turn the programme upside down, so the left back, left half etc are closest to you.

Hope that explanation makes some kind of sense! Anyway it didn't catch on.
