i was watching this auction online today and some good prices were reached and someone will be very happy if all 55 lots came from the same person. the grand total of nearly £12,000 was raised and some of the highlights were
late 1950's Lincoln city reserve progs £1,800
a collection of 1940's progs £1,200
a collection of 1950's progs £2,400
and a collection of Scottish progs £1,500
from what I could see they were mainly sold in the room and just shows the programmes are still out there. But I was just wondering if anyone on here viewed the lots just to see if the prices reached were good value or way over the top due to two people going head to head to the death |

I was at the auction today to buy some of the Lincoln items. the lot I especially wanted contained 54 s/s issues from 1955 to 1958 of which I needed 27 for my collection . I tried to sort something with a fellow collector so that we could split the lot but to no avail what ensued was plain silly with the lot making £1800 + 22% commission to be added this put each single sheet programme at £40 each. the other lots varied from poor to very good the lot of 1950's mixed contained about 600 programmes and sold I think for £2200 + commission. generally the prices were over the top but this happens at so many auctions it does not surprise me anymore. there seems to be a shortage of genuine good collections coming on to the market at the moment and therefore prices are very high if anything good turns up simple supply and demand poshimp |

£1500 for the Scottish modern issues.
There must have been something special there to achieve that price |

I didn't go to the auction today but did view the lots yesterday in Lincoln,
apart from the first half a dozen lots I watched the auction on saleroom.com
I went to view the 1950's lot, I looked at every programme, thought there may be 400/500 in the box, some in poor condition, the majority in fair condition only,
can't believe the price £2,400 + commission
good luck to the buyer but I didn't see anything very valuable
I saw a real random selection of clubs programmes
Some lovely lots, the Lincoln reserves & the Notts County section, the Notts Forest late 1940's collection went for reasonable prices i thought
Why did 1940's random programme lot & the Scottish lot fetch so much ??
£12,000 overall, that is incredible, way way over the top
I bet Rob can't wait till next week with the Celtic programmes, lol
Does anyone know how much the two Manchester City 1930's & the 1930's Manchester United programme (was in pieces) went for ? |

I watched the auction online and the auctioneer asked for £10 opening bid on the Manchester City programmes ... and was gobsmacked when the bidding went to £180. The Man U programme stalled at £75 then internet bidding up it to £140. I guess either they were unaware of its condition or thought that with a little(or lot) of restoration it could be worth it?
The amount paid for the box of 1960s (£320) - seemed high too -was anything special in there? |

I wonder how many were in the lot, but it is some price. Killie whites maybe? early Celtic and Rangers? _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/footballprogrammes/albums |

I too have been gobsmacked by the prices realised. All I can assume is that there was something hidden away unnoticed or that selling at non specialist sports auctions is the way forward with people just assuming they are worth loads? Plus a hefty 22.5% buyers commission!
As for the united programme those in the room must have known the poor condition but if bidding online probably thought £75 max restoration and a 1930s United programme then being worth £300 plus afterwards?
With prices for standard programmes at an al time low all we can assume is that something special was lurking in those lots..... |
