Hi Rob, are you able to detail the Australian issues contained in lot 312?

including 1912 Merthyr Town v West Ham estimated to go for £600 to £800. I thought 1920 was our EKI, you learn something everyday. I wish I had the money to even put in a respectable bid Shake

I have had a lot of interest in the Galsgow Celtic pre war programmes, many stating that they have not see one, with 40 in my next sale it could be interesting. Just out of interest do any forum members have/or know of any.
regards
Rob

I got 2 from the early 1930's in a collection 16 years ago. I put them in PM and got prices around your minimum iirc. I think your guide is fine in general although certain away teams will no doubt fetch a lot higher. It will be tougher on the Celtic collectors with so many up at the same time.

Great find.

It is indeed an amazing find, having two or three in the same sale would stir plenty of interest, never mind 30. I’m willing to bet many have never seen the light of day before. I’d expect a bun fight over these from many serious Scottish club collectors who’s team are involved. Should make for very interesting viewing.

Would be interesting to know if this is a collector selling up, or if it’s completely fresh to the market.

I once bought Celtic vs Queen of the South 1935-36 for £30 and four pre WW2 Queen of the South homes as well that he'd found on the local tip. I'd only been in Scotland a couple of years and had started putting adverts in the local paper and got a call "I've got 5 programmes from the 1930's and I want £30 for them all" We were both happy with the deal albeit I think I was perhaps a little bit more excited than he was.

Be interesting to see what the Nithsdale Wanderers Scottish Cup programme goes for. Have been advertising for that and other pre WW2 Nithsdale programmes for donkey's years but have never got a sniff - Nithsdale played at Sanquhar, about 12 miles north of where I live.

Got this from a friend
Eck, I was reading the post on the football programme centre about the pre war Celtic homes at auction, it`s worth mentioning that the official Celtic programme history guide from the late 80s by Tam McGouran doesn't recognise any of these as official Celtic programmes. obviously they are interesting items but none of them were issued by Celtic.

good afternoon
its Robert from sporting memorys

I am very surprised by the above note

who I this friend?

there is no doubt whatsoever that these are official celtic football programmes

my office will shortly be posting copies of the programmes

I think that this mysterious friend, might have an ulterior motive in talking down the value of the programmes

I think I'm correct in saying that Hearts pre-war issues were effectively sub-contracted out by the club to a third party to produce, just like most club programmes these days are put together by third party publishers and not produced wholly "in-house".

Hearts, Hibs and Celtic pre-war issues all have a broadly similar design, therefore it's probably a similar case with Celtic. They were sanctioned by the club, but weren't produced "in house" by Celtic employees.

Could be wrong, but I don't think these are "unofficial" and are very much "official programmes"
