I know my request doesn’t involve programmes but often programme collectors are also very good on statistics / club histories so I am hoping someone might be able to help me.

I am looking for the dates of births for the following players who have scored in European competition for a Scottish club. I have tried the internet / Wikipedia with no luck except for a few years of birth quoted rather than the full date:

John BAXTER – Hibernian – 61-62
Jim CHRISTIE – Rangers – 61-62
Duncan FALCONER – Hibernian – 62-63
John HARVEY – Partick – 63-64
Bobby KINLOCH – Hibernian – 60-61
Brian McILROY – Kilmarnock - 64-65
Jackie McINALLY – Kilmarnock – 64-65
Eric MURRAY – Kilmarnock – 66-67
George PEEBLES – Dunfermline – 61-62
George SMITH – Partick - 63-64
Doug WRIGHT – Partick – 63-64

If anyone is able to help please could you also advise the source(s) you have taken the information from.

Many thanks.

Thanks for the link for George Peebles’ date of birth.

Just to confuse the situation I have found a few other sources:

http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=6230 which gives his date of birth as 1 January 1941. I am not convinced that 1 January is correct as many of these ‘type of websites’ give default date of births of 1 January.

However, https://www.facebook.com/officialdafc/photos/a.1380586448830499.1073741830.1378649175690893/1385719128317231/?type=1&theater appears to indicate that George’s birthday is in January.

Just to muddy things further a Stirling Albion website: http://www.stirlingalbion-mad.co.uk/sngl/edz2/george_peebles_163450/index.shtml states:
Peebles waited a long time to get the Manager’s job at Stirling – he first appeared for the club as a trialist in 1952. Rejected then as being too small to make the grade, Peebles was signed by Dunfermline, where he enjoyed great times as a player. The Pars won the Scottish Cup in 1961 and competed at the top level in Europe.

Assuming that the 1952 date is correct and taking the years of birth of 1941 and 1938 this would make George approximately 11 or 14 years old. I am not sure what the interpretation of a ‘trialist’ would have been then but would 11 or 14 years of age be possible?

Soccer base is where I started and I found the same thing. In fact I posted that. Then I checked another of the players and that came up January first too for a birthdate, which of course seemed strange. So I edited the post and went to the London Hearts site and seen it listed differently.

Further to my post from last year I have now been able to locate the dates of birth for four of the players. Sadly it takes the passing of a player for us to discover their dates of birth:

George Peebles (Dunfermline Ath)
born 22 January 1936, died 16 October 2016, aged 80.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Peebles

Jackie McInally (Kilmarnock)
born 21 November 1936, died 8 July 2016, aged 79.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_McInally

Eric Murray (Kilmarnock)
born 12 December 1941, died 7 November 2016, aged 74.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Murray_(footballer)

In the references to each entry are links to obituaries in the Scottish newspapers.

John Baxter (Hibernian)
born 15 October 1936, died 12 December 2014, aged 78.
