Was thrown by the French! Looks like a 1923 tour match of Switzerland.

Also, Holtie, the word "jouera" means WILL PLAY on Sunday 3rd June so this picture would have been taken in advance of the day in question, not on it.

Hi Holtie.

Rangers played F.C Berne on Sunday the 3rd June 1923. The crowd is given as 10,000 and Rangers won 7-0 . Unfortunately I don't have a record of the team or the scorers that day. They had played Les Coqs in Paris on the 30th May winning 6-1, scorers G Henderson (2), A Cunningham (2), S Archibald and Hansen. The day after the game in question, the 4th June, they beat La Chaux De Fondes 3-0 in a match played in Geneva.

Kit does look remarkably similar to the other club in Glasgow?

Rangers did wear a kit with fine blue and white hoops around 1880 for a few seasons, but this photo is well after that.

Rangers have had several striped away kits over the years but not in this period, see link. Maybe a special top for the tour.

Holtie, hard for me to see with the quality of the picture and the quality of my eyes, but, it looks to me like on the left is Bill Struth ( manager), fourth from left is Andy Cunningham, left of the goalie is Alan Morton and the right side of the goalie is Davie Meiklejohn. Morton was shorter than Meiklejohn but it looks like they are standing on some kind of slope that might explain that.

Below a few photos which might help. These would have been anywhere from 1923-1928. The last picture especially shows Meikejohn and Cunningham in particular for you to compare to your original.

Bill Struth on the right

Alan Morton

Strange that there is no badge on the jerseys either which could go along with a special top made for the tournament ?

The Rangers 'complete record' book is slightly misleading as it has some details wrong.

Rangers played five matches in Switzerland on their 1923 post-season tour, beating St Gallen 7-0 on 26 May, FC Basel 3-0 on 27 May, Servette 3-1 in Geneva on Thursday 31 May, FC Berne 7-0 on Saturday 2 June, and then FC Etoile of La Chaux-de-Fonds 3-0 on Sunday 3 June.

Your card relates to the last of these games, played at the stadium of FC Etoile. It is basically an advertising card produced before the match by a shop in Rue Leopold Robert, which is in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
