We are two weeks away now from the first North Wales Programme fair in what I believe is over 20 years – we have eight dealers booked on as follows:

Westward Programmes
NWM Programmes
Glyn Jones (Everton specialist)
Tom Roe
Accrington Stanley FC
Chorley FC
Crewe Alexandra FC
and my good self

There is room for one more so if anyone wants a stall please get in touch asap, contact details below.

As this is unchartered territory for many of you, it may help if I tell you the main collecting and supporting interests along the North Wales coast are Wales’ national team (especially material involving Wales from Euro 16), the Liverpool and Manchester area clubs from Premier League to National League, teams from the Midlands, Potteries and Marches and Wrexham, Chester and Tranmere. Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea also have a following. Big match programmes are always popular and there is a healthy interest in vintage programmes involving Rhyl, Bangor City and Caernarfon Town. This is a very broad spectrum and is just intended as a rough guide. There are also quite a few badge collectors in the region, especially Welsh club issues.

Venue: Prestatyn Town FC, Bastion Gardens, Prestatyn, Denbighshire, LL19 7LU.
Date: Sunday October 23rd, 11.30am till 2.30pm.

The venue is easily accessible with a decent-sized car park some 15 yards from the main entrance to the clubhouse. There are no steps or stairs to negotiate.
Access will be from 9.30am, bacon baps and hot drinks available on arrival! It may be possible to drop off (but not set up) on the Saturday evening.
I hope you will enjoy the event and for those of you staying Saturday night I trust we can meet up for a pint and a chat. Prestatyn is a bit of a boom town at the moment and we have a small but wide-ranging selection of pubs, bars and restaurants, all of which are good and offer a friendly welcome.
For a football fix, Prestatyn Town are at home to Penrhyncoch in the Huws Gray Alliance on the Saturday before the fair, 2.30pm kick off.

After an enjoyable time at the Bradford Park Avenue Fair yesterday, I'm now beginning to prepare for my first-ever Fair in Wales at Prestatyn Town this coming Sunday (11.30am - 2.30pm).
Mark Jones deserves a lot of praise for organising the event, ensuring eight dealers are in attendance and arranging plenty of advance publicity.
If there are any Forum members in the area on Sunday, I recommend a visit. Fairs are an ideal opportunity to buy and sell, browse and chat, in a relaxed atmosphere, and whatever your interest, you'll almost certainly find the visit worthwhile.

I am really hoping for a good turnout for this - I have bust my balls promoting it with more local newspaper and website publicity to come this week. The weather forecast is for a dry and mild weekend here in Gogledd Cymru and I look forward to welcoming all dealers and collectors to my home town.
Can anyone please supply me with a phone number for the lads from Chorley FC, they phoned to take a stall but are the only ones not to confirm yet.
The football club have tried their hardest to work everything out, we have trestle tables from the local Territorial Army depot, they have a team in after Saturday's game to tidy up and prepare the room and Mr Apple will be up bright and early on Sunday morning to provide bacon rolls and hot drinks on arrival.

efcbluenose, I will have the Europa Final & Everton v. Man Utd semi-final with me, and although in terms of Internationals was only intending to bring Wales homes/aways, I do have England v. Albania from 1989 in stock, so will bring that with me too.

Very much looking forward to this, and as Gordon has already pointed out, hope collectors and dealers will benefit from the brilliant work Mark is doing in arranging and publicising the fair. Provided I can cram everything I hope to into the car I will have the following range of goodies with me on Sunday.....

F.A. Cup Finals - FULL run from 1946 to 2016 (plus 1945 South War Cup Final)

League Cup Finals - with some pre-Wembley, including a punch-holed (but on white paper so in theory repairable) Rotherham v. Aston Villa, Aston Villa v. Birmingham, Stoke v. Leicester (though sadly with a trimmed top edge)

Charity Shield - again this includes a number of pre-Wembley ones, though not the massively scarce issues. The earliest I have is 1953 Arsenal v. Blackpool, although I would say the scarcest one I currently have is 1969 Leeds v. Manchester City (token missing).

F.A. Cup/League Cup Semi-Finals.

F.A. Amateur Cup, Trophy & Vase Finals/Semi-Finals.

Scottish F.A. & League Cup Finals/Semi-Finals

European Cup/Cup Winners' Cup/Fairs & UEFA Cup Finals

Wales Homes & Aways (inc v. England, Scotland etc)

Pre-1960 Football League stock - obviously being a Middlesex based dealer, a large proportion of these will be from the London clubs. I have Arsenal, Brentford, Fulham, Tottenham items dating back to the 1930's, and some Chelsea items from the 1920's. Oldest item I can currently offer is Aston Villa v. Sheffield United from December 1909. Full details can be found in 'Classic Corner' on http://nwmfootball.com/classic-corner/pre-1960-football-league/

Pre-1970 Non-League

General stocks of Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United (though space means I probably won't bring the daft post-2002 square ones), Tranmere & Wrexham homes. (Should also have a few Southport issues too). Will also aim to dig out European issues featuring the big four (...and I also have Wrexham v. Anderlecht from 1975-76 too !)

Charles Buchan magazines - oldest one available being Issue No. 2 (Oct '51), this one is signed by Billy Wright. A couple of other 1952 issues are also signed.

Goal Magazines (priced at £2 each) - had a near full run of these, but these have been trickling out well at fairs. Still plenty available, and all in excellent condition. Was able to help a collector at Stoke complete his collection a couple of weeks ago, I had the final five issues he required.

Shoot - the earliest issue I currently have is No. 6 dated 13th September 1969, and I will have items to the end of 1976 with me, again these are in the same condition you would expect if you were picking them off your newsagent's shelf today. 1969 & 1970 issues are priced at £2, with those dated 1971-76 just £1 each. Please note that I have a comprehensive list which comes with me to fairs, detailing who's on the front/in the middle/on the back/other colour pics in Shoot, and who's on the cover of CB & Goal, so if you are looking for magazines with, for instance Everton posters from a specific season, or Manchester City players, I can pinpoint EXACTLY what is available. http://www.nwmfootball.com/classic-magazines/ may help you with more details.

Football Shirts - can offer a wide range of weird and wonderful replicas in excellent condition, including English, Scottish, Continental clubs and International teams, all clean and bagged. £12 each (two for £20/five for £40).

Books - will probably restrict this to autobiographies featuring players from the Merseyside/Manchester clubs, but there will be a few other odds and ends too.

TOPPS cards - mainly 1976-77 Red Back/1977-78 Orange Back.

There will hopefully be room for a few DVD's etc (maybe even a few VHS if anyone needs them, have the excellent BBC histories of Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United which were issued in the late 1980's in the good old days before the Premier League ruined football)....basically if there is space in the car when I'm loading on Friday, I'll squeeze it in somehow !

If there is anything which I haven't covered here and is listed on http://nwmfootball.com/ that takes your fancy, e-mail me at [email protected] or give me a call on 07922 047375 NO LATER THAN THURSDAY AFTERNOON please.

Looking forward to meeting many forum members for the first time on Sunday.

All the best,
Lee

I think it's fair to say today's North Wales fair was a success - I was keeping a reasonably accurate account of numbers through the door and I made it just a shade over 180 people turned up. There were 40 in the room ten minutes before we opened!
It seems all the dealers enjoyed themselves and a lot of stuff was brought in for sale/valuation including an 1891 Welsh Cup winners medal and the very rare 1958 Israel v Wales World Cup qualifier programme.
My sincere and grateful thanks to (in no particular order) Nick, Neil, Gordon, Tom, Glyn and Lee - top guys each and every one.
I will be organising another fair, probably in May or early June 2017.
I hope you will all come back if possible, it was great to meet you and the forum members who turned up. A great day. Thanks again.

Got to agree - attendance of over 180 is exceptional.
In my limited experience of attending fairs (just overs 4 years as a dealer) I have never before received so many requests to provide valuations at a single event.
Other commitments permitting, I would welcome an invitation to return.

Very well done Mark, the hard work seems to have paid off handsomely.

We have our programme fair at Auchinleck on November 13th - I've never been able to persuade Gordon to travel SO far north, but you never know - and if we get 40 through the door I'll be over the moon. So will the dealers, because they outlay so little, and it shows that fairs are sustainable.

If fairs are run for the benefit of the punter, rather than those dealers who won't get out of bed unless there's £500 plus profit in it for them, then they will flourish. Looks like you've hit on the happy medium.

John - I think you are right, fairs are for the punters, traders will have a good day if they pitch their stock right for the size of the event and the region the fair is held in.
The guys looking for £500 plus profit from a regional fair will always be disappointed. I do feel that I found a happy medium.
I thought the lads who set up stall in Prestatyn had got it spot on, loads of Welsh, north west and Midlands stuff which is the main interest in this neck of the woods.
Curiously, and slightly at odds with the preceding paragraph, I sell a hell of a lot of Welsh Premier in Europe programmes to Scotland - kindred Celtic spirits?
