Tonight's attendances would (rightly) suggest that the 'privilege' of seeing the 'big' clubs apprentices in action didn't have the "wee" clubs' fans battering the door down for entry into the ground.

If anything, it's devalued the competition which is a great shame.

Thankfully Port Vale beat our lot.

I think it is more of a showcase to highlight the young british talent locked away in the 'bigger clubs' youth systems that have little chance of breaking into the first team. There are plenty more like Marcus Rashford who simply will never get a chance. He took his chance amazingly well but if he did not score so soon in his career and went 3 appearances with no goals he would have slipped into obscurity and had Manchester United's striker situation not been so dire no one would even know about him apart from a few die hard fans and the Man utd coaching staff.

Devalues the cup? not for me......at the end of the day winning the trophy gives clubs a superb opportunity to get into Europe that is an amazing opportunity for a lot of clubs. If the clubs dont take that seriously, you need to question the clubs ambitions not the trophy itself.

There were 120 Derby supporters at Port Vale last night.
For all I know, we have a burgeoning Supporters Club branch in Burslem.

Anyone Derby fan who gives a damn about maintaining the integrity of the English football pyramid, however, would have steered clear of this fixture.

The club I support may have a far greater revenue stream than Port Vale but that doesn't give them the right to patronise them.

Hopefully this boycott will stay solid until the last of the cuckoos are eliminated from the competition (Derby included).

I didn’t like the JPT in its original form but now the competition has been totally devalued.

Looking at the attendances I can’t see how the powers that be can really justify it. Rochdale play Sunderland next week and there are very few Dale fans who intend to go. The attendance will be below 500.

I read somewhere that a few of those (ahem) "crowds" were accused of being purposely inflated too.
To try and save a little face.

It'll be interesting to see the attendance figures for the final round of group games, when almost a third of the fixtures could well be dead-rubbers!

And a big "well done" to everybody who shunned these games.
Especially clubs like Wimbledon who practically encouraged their fans not to attend.

I read on our forum that we took 89 fans to Plymouth, and somebody replied ... "Well done to those loyal 89."

Well bloody done I thought, yeah right, I'm thoroughly ashamed of every one of them.
Anyone that supports this competition needs to have a serious word with themselves if they value their club's current status.

Especially a tin-pot outfit like ours.

I must confess i'm tempted to go to Rochdale. We've never played there before and I may never get chance to see us there again

I hope the media don't get the wrong idea and (like The Guardian) start criticising the competition as a whole.

It's a great tournament with a history going back 35 years now but its whole raison d'etre is that it is a knockout tournament for lower division clubs with a Wembley Final as the reward.. Not a plaything for the big boys to utilise for their own sordid financial interests.

I wouldn't want a legitimate boycott to end with the demise of this competition.

Pah!

What makes the Football League Trophy so special anyway?
I mean why the heck should it escape scot-free??
It's got a damned cheek if you ask me.
Who the blazes does it think it is?!
Ect, etc.

Let's face it, the Premier League has already killed every other domestic competition stone dead.
So it's only right and proper that this League Trophy malarkey gets unceremoniously stamped on as well.

I personally won't set foot inside a stadium ever again until it's killed the FA Vase too.
Nothing gets on my tits like that one does.

Honestly the sheer brassneck of those non-league upstarts having something that doesn't involve Chelsea's two hundred, stockpiled, on-loan-so-nobody-else-can-have-them, foreigner youngsters makes me ruddy sick to the pit of my stomach.

These grass-roots blackguards and their tin-pot days out at Wembley are everything that's wrong with the bloody game.

Thumbs Up
