Another longstanding Lancashire brewery no longer around.

Bents Brewery was acquired by Higsons in the 1970s, another name that's disappeared although I think there are plans to resurrect it.

Beer and football expertise! A winning combination!! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Didn't care much for Higsons, I was more of a Greenhalls man back in the day! Wave

Quite liked Higsons, although there was just the one Higsons pub in Blackpool, the Kings Arms near North Station.

It was usually the first port of call going into town and I was extremely disappointed when it was sold and became a gay bar.

It was pulled down a few years ago as part of the town centre development.

Here is a Higsons advert from a 1938 Liverpool programme.

A close but stuck-up relative of mine, Barnsley, 1921. Oh! for a phone number like that today!

Hull City, 1925. Don't suppose they brewed this specially for Palace's visit! Sadly another defunct brewhouse, bought up by Mansfield Brewery in 1982 and closed 3 years later.

Probably the most basic, and thus useless, advert in programmic history

Presumably Palace charged per word! (1955 v Bristol City)

From Rhyl v Oldham FA Cup 60/61.
North Wales' finest monkey emporium - all types of lower primates available, I remember badgering my parents for a lowland gorilla but they refused on the grounds the Smiths at number 26 bought one and it tore the whole family to pieces! I ended up with a crested macacque amd my sister had a marmoset which she called Nigel. Very Happy

Whistable Town, 1986

Nice to see them doing a charity record to make money for the victims of the Heysel disaster (unless it refers to a different disaster in Brussels). Greenhill Studios with its snooker room and speedboat must have been the place to go in Herne Bay back then. And all that equipment!!

"Radio Cabin" is Herne Bay's local radio station, the HQ of which is located within Winch's Field - Herne Bay FC's ground.
I know one of the DJs who used to broadcast from there (before he transferred to another station).

I wonder if this is the same place now renamed?

Having paid a visit there last year, there's certainly enough electrical equipment in there!

Concerning adverts.

Does any Manchester United supporter know when the Horrockses front cover tie adverts started in the 1930's ? and when they ended their association with the club?

Here's one I have from the 1936/37 season v Middlesbrough.

1935/36 Man City v Derby, Central League.

How much would those properties go for nowadays?!

Unusual imagery to utilise.

Everton v Derby, Jan 1930.

1913 Hoffmann Athletic v Nunhead.

It's all to do with perception as to how, at first glance, one reads the vendor's name!

I've got adverts in City programmes of the same year. The Timperley houses are just before you get into Altrincham on Shaftesbury Avenue they are now priced at £350k + as the more affordable 3 bed semi's

One of many Stanley Matthews endorsed boots and balls adverts which adorned programmes during the 50s.

This one is from a 1958 Soccer News programme during Blackpool's tour to Australia.

Footwear was a major industry in Dundalk for many a year up until the 1980s. Ads for shoes and football boots are a regualr feature in Irish programme. This is from a Dundalk away match, but the boots advertised were made in Dundalk.
(Shelbourne v Dundalk 1952-53)
