The Mar-16 PCI is 65.93

This represents an increase on December’s figure of 56.34. It remains to be seen whether this uptick will be sustained throughout the year.

(Base year 2009 = 100)

The PCI is a proxy index for the market for rare and valuable programmes. It is currently based on a limited dataset with plans to expand this in due course.

This fell back from March’s figure (65.93) but is still higher than 2015

September 30th update

The Sep-16 PCI is 61
This fell back from June’s figure (66) but is still 18% higher than 2015.
Let us hope that this recovery can be sustained.

As requested, here is another explanation of what this is all about:

The idea is to track the value of programmes (big match/rare) over time in the form of an index, which is the way most other collectable markets do so.
This is only a rough proxy for now, as it tracks some significant Arsenal programmes where data is present for over an extended period (5 years plus). It is hoped that the scope can be expanded in due course, for example if others can contribute data covering other clubs. So far however, this proxy index seems to provide numbers that agree with other anecdotal evidence on prices.

In summary, what the data tells you is that prices on average in 2016 are about 10% below 2011 levels but, having fallen for the quite a few years, have risen over the past year.

Dec 16 update

The final PCI for 2016 is 62
This is 10% higher than 2015.
78% of the programmes tracked showed an increase in sale prices achieved year-on-year.

Sentiment on prices is still negative however, with the recent Poll on this forum suggesting that more collectors feel prices are declining (44%) than rising (24%).
