80 years ago (1935/6 season) and a Central League fixture between Newcastle United reserves and Blackpool reserves.

The programme is an unusual square size comprising 12 pages.

It has a ‘busy’ cover, too busy to include either season, date or opponents.

There is a little reading, tables and fixtures, and lots of adverts including one for a superb BSA Clubman on the front cover.

Newcastle were top of the Central league going into this fixture and remained there with a 1-0 victory.

Derby safe in mid-table but the home side were just 4 points above the relegation zone.

Rather sparse crowd of 8,238 in attendance to watch them take a step towards safety with a 2-1 win, Gordon Hughes on target for Derby, Mel Charles and Ian King for Cardiff.

12 page programme has plenty to read including a detailed report on the Welsh Cup s/f win over Newport and a syndicated article on whether it's possible to be "born" a footballer or whether it's all down to application and perseverance.

69 years ago (1946/7 season) and a 1st Division fixture between Liverpool and Blackpool.

The programme is just a single sheet, with team line-ups on the front, and a half time scoreboard and details of tickets for the FA Cup semi-final against Burnley on the reverse.

Blackpool, who have a good post war record against Liverpool, won this one by 3 goals to 2 with Mortensen 2 and Buchan scoring the goals for the Seasiders.

Liverpool however still went on to win the league with Blackpool finishing 5th.

1947 and a visit to the seaside saw a thumping 6-1 defeat at the Saffrons. Eastbourne finished 10th, Maidenhead 8th (of 13) whilst Walton & Hersham won the Corinthian League title that season. Large four page issue produced by the host club.

87 years ago (1928/9 season) and a 2nd Division fixture between Millwall and Blackpool.

The programme is a large size 4 page issue printed on flimsy paper. It includes tables, fixtures and plenty of notes.

Millwall won 2-1 with Browell scoring for the Seasiders.

The attendance was 16,933.

Unfortunately not one of mine but worth a look as there aren’t many pre first world war Blackpool home programmes about.

This is 104 years old (1911/2 season) and is for a 2nd Division fixture against Clapton Orient.

I don’t have any more details but plan to speak to the owner and request scans of the inside pages.

Blackpool won this fixture 1-0 with Milne scoring the solitary goal.

Scunthorpe don't feature too often here so thought I'd include this one from 1962 replete with, in my opinion, one of the more aesthetically pleasing front covers of the era.

7,188 in attendance to watch the home team win 2-0. Friday night match for whatever reason.

12 page issue, not stapled. Pages are loose. In addition, given the "lucky number" is very low (22) I wonder if this particular copy was from a dummy run at the printers or something similar?

7th April 1951

Football League, Division III (South)

Att: 11,032

Ipswich Town 1, Crystal Palace 1 (Thomas)

The quaintly-named Palace inside forward, John Thomas, here seen in action in the previous season at Selhurst. The other leg belongs to a visiting defender. Palace ended the season in 24th and last place with this point at Portman Road being one of only 6 gained from the last 24.

64 years ago (1951/2 season) and a 1st Division fixture between Newcastle United and Blackpool.

The programme is a very informative 12 page issue which includes fixtures, tables and goal scorers for the Northern Alliance and Northern Combination.

Blackpool won 3-1 with Allan Brown scoring a hat-trick for the Seasiders and Billy Foulkes replying for the Magpies.

The attendance was 47,316.

8 page programme 80% of which is advertising.

How different things were back then, though....the entire back page is taken up with listings for what's on at the 4 different cinemas the town possesses.

No soulless, over-priced, no-smoking, wurlitzer-free multiplex things back then. There were art-deco architectural gems. Usherettes and those women whose job it was to shine a torch so you could find your seat in the dark. Drinks on a stick. Two movies for your money. The back row reserved for those who needed to use the back row!

What we have now is progress?? Aye, right.

I don't know the score for this game. Anyone does, let me know.

"... replete..." - Excellent! (and agree on the design)

Here's one from a club that doesn't turn up often:

07/04/56 Sandown v Cowes Reserves (Hants Lge Div. 2)

Four pager on card - all four pages shown.
