Massive Magazine Collection

[NWM Football]

I have just taken delivery of a truly amazing collection of football magazines, stretching from the early 1950's through to the 1990's.

The collection includes Charles Buchan, Soccer Star, Goal, Shoot, Match Weekly, 'new' Football Monthly, plus many other titles, with most of the collection in perfect condition, and in many cases available from Issue No.1 onwards.

I'll be adding a 'Classic Mags' section to nwmfootball.com with full lists and prices broken down by publication, but I do literally have thousands to get sorted and catalogued ! If there is anything specific you collect or require, please do not hesitate to make contact and I'll keep an eye out while I'm sorting.

When you go through them, probably over the next year or so!! If there are any with Brentford team photos in, or Brentford players depicted, then I'll be interested. I do have some, but I'm sure there are more that I don't have.

Given that we have been robbed of 'proper football' this weekend because of yet another poxy international break (these REALLY get on my nerves, and the constant punctuation of the fixture list every six weeks is the SOLE cause of so-called fixture congestion), I shall be starting on them a bit later today. Doing two Antique & Collectors Fairs tomorrow/Monday, but it won't take too long to get the car loaded for those.

I did actually pick up some of the material a couple of months ago, but the chap I bought them from was able to drop the rest off in a van yesterday. Ideally I want to get some of the older magazines sorted so I can bring them to Emperors Gate next Sunday.

any magazines to do with the 1966 fa cup final

Almost certainly ! The run of Charles Buchan mags runs to the late 60's, so there's bound to be May/June/July '66 in there.

What I will aim to do when I catalogue them is list the 'centre spread' picture (as I'm sure you know Shoot, Match etc always had a team group in the middle) by the date of each magazine.

Right, the giant sort out is underway !!!

Firstly, my thanks to those of you who have PM'd me with various requests regarding specific clubs and content. I will do my very best to spot as much as I can for you while I'm sorting and cataloguing everything, and contact you as soon as possible.

I have created the section on my website where everything will be listed, namely http://www.nwmfootball.com/new-classic-mags/ . From there you will be able to click on to the relevant sub sections listing everything by publication. In some cases, these will be broken down further to make the lists for some of the longer running publications easier to navigate - for example, Shoot is listed as "Shoot 1969-80", "Shoot 1981-90" and "Shoot 1991 onwards". I have also added some abbreviations on the header page highlighting special issues which relate to Cup Finals, major tournaments, etc., and as already stated, will list the central feature/team group where applicable.

The collection is truly amazing. It belonged to the father of a gent I worked with briefly last summer (the son also had a little spell at Hayes FC in the early '90s - as some of you will be aware, I used to run the Club Shop at Hayes FC/Hayes & Yeading for many years). His Dad passed away the best part of twenty years ago (in fact, he used to pop into the shop at Hayes after games when watching his son, so it's a bit ironic that I've ended up with them), and they have been carefully stored and left untouched since then. All but a very few items are in perfect condition, and I'll add some pictures to the website pages. In some cases, there are also MULTIPLE copies of the same magazine, so hopefully there will be enough to satisfy all interested collectors !

I have looked at a couple of other websites which specialise in football magazines, and am working out a pricing structure which I hope will be competitive and offer good value. Listings for some of the magazines where there aren't thousands of them (!!!) will be up a bit later on today. Hope you will find something of interest.

Evening all. Bear with me, I'm working on it, but it's NOT going to be a five-minute job !

Have listed the Jimmy Hill Football Weekly, Football Supporter/Football Pictorial, Football Weekly (1979/80 version) within the last hour or so. The Jimmy Hill & Football Supporter are priced at £1.50 each, the Football Weekly's are £1.

I have a run of World Soccer from late 1966 through to 1969 (these will be £2) which will be going on next. I'll then be putting the 'new' post-1974 Football Monthly's (which will be £1) in order whilst dipping in and out of the England game, and possibly getting some of these loaded tonight too.

I'll then be aiming to get the Charles Buchan and Goal magazines sorted tomorrow, before moving on to the weeklies such as Shoot, Match, Soccer Star - as you'll appreciate, there are THOUSANDS of those to go through !

The post-1974 Football Monthly mags are now all loaded. With the exception of the July '74 issue (£3), they are all just £1 each. The publication was an excellent one in the 1980's, but its quality of both layout and material dropped quite markedly in the 1990's.

So much stood out as I was going through these, in particular a 'black mark' in the September 1979 issue "To Liverpool...for agreeing to clutter those famous red shirts with the name of a Japanese electronics firm for the paltry sum of £50,000. This must be the shoddiest sell-out in soccer history".

Oh, how times of changed !

The early CB's (to end of 1954) are now on the website.

A couple of the older ones are amongst the very few items in the collection where condition could be better (sadly Issue 1 has detached covers, but the magazine is complete). Will be happy to post or message pictures of the magazines which have been autographed should anybody wish to see them.

The rest of the CB's are in order, and will be loaded tomorrow. There is pretty much a complete run up to about 1966, with a good number of further issues through to 1973.
