That's remarkable - and must be the ultimate pub quiz question!!

As an Island resident I wasn't aware of that fact and I have heard many times the name Andy Watson, incredible feat (or even feet given he's played that long)

The Cowes no.5 probably has a tale or two to tell too Get My Coat

24th March 1962

WBA Reserves v Leeds United

Only 4 pages but surprisingly plenty of info

He played somewhere in the region of 800 times for Cowes (1979-84 and 1994-2011), but between 1984 and 1994 he was playing for East Cowes then Ryde, so his career appearances are more like 1200. A proper legend, although sometime I'll tell you a story involving him that (as a collector) breaks my heart every time I think about it...

Yes, 'twas the star-cross'd lovers.

25th March 1978

Football League, Division II

Att: 13,428

Crystal Palace 1 (Cannon), Bristol Rovers 0

Easter Saturday 1978, and the second game in a run of 3 games in 4 days for Palace over this weekend. Talk above of a long-serving player on the IOW and here's the player with most appearances in Palace history, 653 starts + 4 subs (34 goals including the one here): Jim Cannon, a Palace legend.

For a brief period of time in the late 60s, for whatever reason, Forest's reserve team shifted from the Football Combination to the Central League.

cue a handful of derbys against Derby Smile

3-1 to the Rams on the day

26th March 1977

FA Youth Cup, 5th Round (Quarter Final)

Att: 3,000+ (maybe Mr Nutfield can be more precise?)

Crystal Palace 3 (Hilaire 2, Sansom), West Bromwich Albion 0

The programme was similar to the one showing on 22nd March (1978), and the result was too, as Palace made their way to their first FAYC Championship with a thumping victory over holders WBA. Vince Hilaire knew how to keep warm...

Eight games of the season to go, you're lying 21st in the table, you probably don't want to commence a run of 7 straight defeats. But that's what happened here.

Ipswich 2
Derby 1 (Ken Harrison)

att: 13,857

Smart cover.

27th March 1948

Football League, Division III (South)

Att: 16,036

Crystal Palace 4 (Kurz 3, Clough), Swansea Town 0

He's appeared a few times before, but a hat-trick merits another appearance - Fred Kurz (50 goals in 151 games for Palace)

Easter Saturday 79 years ago (1936/7 season) and a 2nd Division fixture between Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa.

The programme is a 16 page joint issue which also covers the fixture against Blackpool 2 days later on Easter Monday.

Blackburn lost to Villa 4-3 but beat Blackpool 2-0 which was a reverse of the result of the fixture played on Good Friday.

27th March 1964

Division 2

Newcastle Utd 0 Leeds United 1 (Giles)

Att. 55,038

Impressive Easter crowd and a good win for top of the table Leeds against the 5th placed Toon. Leeds would go on to be champions

My copy is a little wrinkly, if anyone has a nice condition spare please let me know, thank you

27th March 1990

Colne Dynamoes v Caernarfon Town

HFS Loans Premier (NPL)

A very nice 28 page issue packed full of reading material. Colne Dynamoes were top of the league and went on to win it, their reserves at the time were absolutely miles clear in their league too. Not knowing much about them I was surprised to read their Wiki page, it would appear that they folded just a few months later after being refused promotion to the Conference. Worth a read maybe, link here.....

If you were in London 53 years ago, a couple of options for you.

46 years ago - the guy on the front cover photograph would find himself playing for the Rams some 7 years later (if it's who I think it is)

Sunderland 1
Derby 1 (McGovern)

att: 18,818.....surprisingly low, given that the home team were, though bottom of the table, only 2 points adrift of safety with 4 games to play.

Sunderland number 4 - good player - wonder what became of him Smile

Wonderful programme Maidonian

Not a patch on that is the following!

Very recent, 28th March 1998

West Ham United v Leeds United

Premier Youth League

A lovely 12 page programme with plenty of stats and info, so much better than the expected single sheet

Cleverly named 'Bubbling Under'

29th March 1958

Football League, Division III (South)

Att: 10,601

Crystal Palace 2 (McNichol, Collins), Exeter City 0

Far outweighing the merits of the pocket-sized programme, identical cover for every game, is this wonderful photo which I procured at considerable expense from EBay a few years back. It ticks every box for me: it shows the scorer, Johnny McNichol in the heart of the action. It's the only match action photo I have from the 1957/8 season. It's in crisp focus. It's 10x8" with a couple of corner creases. Perfection!

The Exeter defenders are Les MacDonald and Ken Oliver. Palace ended the last season of regional 3rd Division football in 14th place and so were founder members of Division IV, along with the Grecians.

68 years ago (1947/8 season) and a 1st Division fixture between Derby County and Blackpool.

The programme is an 8 page issue with notes, team line-ups and fixtures. Three of the pages are made up entirely of adverts.

The game ended 2-2 with Mortensen scoring both the Seasider’s goals.

The attendance was 34,896.

1924 and a visit to Hertford Town for a Spartan League fixture won 4-2 by the home side. Maidenhead finished 12th (out of 14), Hertford Town 8th and Leavesden Mental Hospital won the title. Four page programme printed in black on blue paper.
