69 years ago (1946/7 season) and a 1st Division fixture between Grimsby Town and Blackpool.
The programme is an 8 page issue with fixtures, team line ups, a brief history of Blackpool, half times and a quiz.
Blackpool won 3-2 with goals from Mortensen 2 and McKnight.
The attendance was 13,452.
I must remember to obtain a better copy of this one at some stage. |

Sorry for posting out of sequence, but since RVD likes the replay, here's the original match at Fratton Park a week earlier. |
Thank you for sharing another superb programme _________________ For a daily feed of football nostalgia please click on the link to view my Twitter page on your PC - https://twitter.com/MemorabiliaMal |

Very recent this one but something a bit different I suppose
22nd March 1992
'ITV Match' programme
Arsenal 1 (Merson) Leeds United 1 (Chapman)
Att. 27,844
Similar (loosely) to Leicester's situation now. After this fixture Leeds were just 7 games from winning the League, the last ever Division 1 winners
Large format programme and plenty of information within, quite a decent read actually with good use of colour. I don't remember how I came about this one but assume they were bought from newsagents etc. It is numbered 14 - Does anyone know if this publication was around for just one season or longer?
Two pictures here, a further four showing six other pages on my Twitter feed

70 years ago (1945/6 season) and a Football League North fixture between Stoke City and Blackpool.
The programme is a 4 page issue with notes, fixtures and team line ups.
Stoke won 6-3 with Blackpool’s goals scored by Mortensen 2 and Blair.
The attendance was around 18,000.

Interesting advert on the front of this Helston v Bugle issue from 1957.
It lists the various effects that could be transported by lorry - but what is "serpentine"? I thought that was a river that traversed Hyde Park. No lorry would take a nest of snakes, would it?
8 page programme is an absolute rip-off even for just 3d. Lineups and 3 paragraphs of editorial and the rest is advertising.
Some interesting ads, though - the Helston Taxi Service Co offer both hearses and "mourning cars". The latter is a phrase new to me.
The "Indestructible Paint Co Ltd" list their product as, well, indestructible. Which is probably not ideal if you want repeat business!
And hot Cornish pasties available at the tea hut. For just 3d .nowadays you'd probably pay, what, £2?

Serpentine is a type of rock or mineral - I know this because it cropped up in a quiz recently. |

Another one for you, Derby - I was at a pub quiz tonight - which is the only Shakespeare play in which Easter is mentioned? We guessed correctly after a heated debate. Can you?
24th March 1945
Football League, South
Att: 9,619
Arsenal 1, Crystal Palace 0
Palace used a record number of players in this strange season - 66 in all. I don't have a photo of any of those players that I haven't shown before. |

65 years ago (1950/1 season) and a 1st Division fixture between Everton and Blackpool.
Going into this game Everton were a few points clear of the relegation places but a poor run of results saw them finish the season bottom and relegated to the 2nd Division for only the second time in their history.
Blackpool won 2-0 with both goals scored by Mortensen.
The attendance was over 61,000.
The programme is a very neat small size 16 page issue.

This is another piece of trivia I picked up from a quiz about a couple of years ago.
It's amazing how things just remain at the back of your mind waiting to be recalled.
As you have specifically asked derby I won't spoil it by giving the answer. |

88 years ago and an Isthmian League fixture between The Casuals and Oxford City.
With 14 teams in the league, the home team were lying 10th, the visitors second from bottom.
It's essentially a 15" x 7" single sheet folded to make a 6 page programme. Club notes detail The Casuals' upcoming tour of France where they would, over the space of 4 days, play Stade Havrais, Rouen and then Havre Athletic Club. A 20 man party would make the trip.

It's funny the things you remember from your school days, isn't it?
Shakespeare, verb declination in Latin, how not to show pain when being belted for something you didn't do.......but trigonometry? It's all I can do to spell it, let alone remember what it was all about.
Happy days? Were they heck as like. It was brutal. My old school has now introduced girls - and it's all a lot more civilised nowadays! _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

24/03/84 Cowes Sports 2 - 2 Brockenhurst Res. (Hants Lge Div. 2)
A modest, but likeable, 8-page programme costing 10p. Four page outer with 4 page insert. Unremarkable enough in itself, but this was the first Cowes game I ever went to, a few weeks after my family moved down here from Bedford.
Super Sammy Bradley got both the goals, but further down is a picture of Andy Watson from the 83-4 season. He made his Cowes debut in 1979 and played his last 1st team game in 2011, meaning he played for the club in five consecutive decades. Legend!
_________________ Always looking for pre-1980 Cowes homes, pre-1987 Cowes aways, and any other bits and bobs relating to Cowes F.C. and I.W. football in general. Someone has to. |
